P: LrC (11.0.1) Edit in PS2022 fails because Photoshop could not be launched - Error Message

Since updating my subscription to Adobe for Photographers (Photoshop & Lightroom) I am having an issue when launching Photoshop 2022 from Lightroom v11.

If I right click on the image I'm working on in Lightroom and select 'Edit in Photoshop 2022' I am asked whether or not I want to edit a copy or the original (as I would expect).

If I select "Edit Original" everything works to plan, the image opens in Potoshop and I can proceed.

However:

If I select either "Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments" or "Edit a Copy" I have an issue.
I can see the copy being created on the Film Strip at the bottom of the Lightroom screen, Photoshop starts up and stops at the launch screen but the image fails to open in photoshop.

If I wait for 2 or 3 minutes I recieve an error message in Lightroom: "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop 2022 could not be launched"

If I then select 'OK' in the error message the image immediately opens in Photoshop and I can work away.

This morning an followup update to Photoshop 2022 (to Ver: 23.0.1) was installed and it made no difference.
This afternoon Camera Raw also had a followup update to Version 14.0.1 and it has made no difference.
The problem is still there.

Is this a bug or is there a some way I can fix the problem.

I'm using a Windows PC - Running Win 10 and it has 24gb of RAM

As per my earlier posts, I have tried all the suggested solutions, but have not found a solution.  My systems (Windows, PS and LR) are up to date.

Hi, I am the one that put up the original post and this is getting al little over my head

My computer is getting on a bit. It's a Dell XPS 8700 with an I5 4430 processor and has a AMD Radeon HD 7500 Series GPU. and 24gb Ram
I have uninstalled the GPU and rebooted allowing it to reinstall. This has not resolved the Lr/Ps problem.

In Lightroom, if I go into Preferences > Performance. The User Grapgics Processor is OFF and it remarks that  the "Grapgics Processor Acceleration is not supported by your system".

In Photoshop, if I go into Preferences > Performance it indicates "Unknown GPU (unknown)" and the remainder of the options are greyed out.

These are no different to what they were before the Lr/Ps updated a couple of weeks ago and there was no issues with opening images in Ps from Lr.

The issue with opening images in Photoshop from Lightroom happens regardless of whether I opt for editing the 'original' or a 'new copy'.

Hi.  Thanks for joining us and taking the heat for your dev team.

As mentioned.  I don't use "edit a copy" at all.  I simply click on "Edit In Photoshop 2022"  on a RAW file that I had just imported.  This sits for a long time (some seem to have timed it to 100 seconds) and then comes back with the stated error message.

At that point:

1) the .TIFF file (or PSD) shows up in lightroom with the "1" or "2" (not at that machine so I can't remember which)

2) the file is opened in Photoshop.  If I edit and make changes to it, they are reflected in Lightroom.

I had made NO changes to my drivers/etc.  The _ONLY_ changes were the updates to the current version of LR and PS.

No, it's not limited to "edit a copy". In my case, it occurs when trying to open a RAW (.nef) in PS from LrC. I never use "edit a copy", so I can't speak to that. "Edit original" works OK. But I can't open RAW files. If you look back at my earlier post in this thread, you'll see that the workflow for opening RAW files is screwed up: instead of opening the RAW in PS and then creating TIF/PSB later when you save in PS, it's trying to create the TIF first and pass that to PS. This does eventually succeed after you get the error message in 4 or 5 minutes and then dismiss it. However, that's not how it's supposed to work with RAW files between LrC and PS. Have already updated drivers, uninstalled/reinstalled everything, signed out and back in, etc. None of it helps.

Hi @Irish-Valk

I am part of the engineering team at Adobe. The basic problem appears to be that the "Edit a copy in PS" from LR shows error but PS still opens and everything is working fine. Please feel free to correct or add to this. I'm unable to reproduce the bug on Win PC(Wins 10 + 16GB RAM) in below app versions-

Lightroom Classic version: 11.0
Adobe Photoshop Version: 23.0.1 20211105.r.68 96a498e x64

As per the system info from few users, there seem to be insufficient GPU memory(0 MB) which might be due to graphics drivers not installed properly. I would like to request for re-installation of drivers and checking again.
When this issue is observed are there any specific pre-conditions such as-

> OS specific(Win/Mac)? Anybody who's able to reproduce in a Mac machine as well
> specific extensions(.tif, .nef etc.)
> image size(small/large) in Lr/LrC
> recent updates in GPU drivers
> sequence of app opening(Lr -> Ps or Ps -> Lr -> Ps) etc.
> any additional input

Thanks!

Choosing "edit original" in Lightroom seems to work for me, but "edit a copy with Lightroom adjustments" opens Photoshop OK, but without the image loaded, and results in the error message showing in Lightroom. This is with latest version of both programs installed (Photoshop v. 23.0.2).

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling 3 times with Adobe and over 5 hours with no solution!  I'm swamped in work and need this back into my workflow!

I'm hving the same problem.  In addition, I can launch Photoshop 2022 by itself, but it now cannot see my image files, which are on a hard drive, not on someone else's hard drive in the cloud.

One other curious thing I have noticed with PS 23.0.2: the "Help | About Photoshop..." dialog does not display. You get a busy cursor briefly, then the cursor goes back to normal but the dialog doesn't display. You can still do most other things in PS, but the first 5 items on the Help menu are greyed out. Thinking there must be something corrupted in the installation, I have uninstalled and then reinstalled, but it didn't help.

Well now. I opened PS in my laptop after updating, and it IS a problem. No error, but cannot do several things. Only has an Intel graphics card on board, but it just shows poor code writing. Sorry.
