P: No image preview on Open dialog box on Windows

The preview window in the "Open" dialog box on Windows is gone in Photoshop. So if I click on a PSD file (once) to preview it, there isn't one. I have to completely open the file or go digging for it in Bridge. This is a very fundamental feature that needs to return, especially for those of us that have hundreds of files to dig through. PLEASE fix this.

@1049674, as I just mentioned in that last post, I run my own graphic design/promotional products/custom apparel/web design business. I normally work anywhere from 55-70 hours a week. So yeah....I'm pretty busy.

Dude--I HAVE tried the stupid codec. I KNOW what it is and exactly what you're saying it does. But unless you can tell me that I can browse in list view and still see previews when clicking on a file, then please stop harping on this thread about your precious codec. By the way Noel, I was an art director for 6 years and have now run my own business for the last 2 1/2 years. There's nothing I value more than effective workflow in every aspect of a business and the art departments I've helped build from the ground up. You're not the only "expert" in here.

@4019339 Miller and Noel. I am one of the codec users and it's made working life a whole lot easier. Brady, please don't take this the wrong way, but you're surely not a busy designer are you?

Seems to me those here who have actually used the codec software and are commenting are saying it's actually a good way to work. And yes, I dare say I've had enough experience with computers and Photoshop to call myself an expert.

I don't need to imagine anything. I've lived it just like you. But hey, please don't let me stand in the way of your windmills.

Wait, I have an idea... Go download and actually TRY the stupid codec software and at the same time keep complaining to Adobe that you want your preview back. Maybe you'll get it - in Photoshop CS7.

Maybe one day you'll forget you want to complain.

Wait...what "EXPERTS" are telling us it's a better product than what we wanted? You, Noel? Are you this so-called expert? Noel, if those gigantic thumbnails work for you and you enjoy browsing through hundreds of files with 12 (ish) thumbnails per screen, then more power to you. But a lot of us PREFER to browse via list view, where it's SOOO much easier to visually scan through several files and find quickly what we're looking for. However, when we find that file we're after and it has three or four different formats, it would be nice to be able to click on it and see an image preview at the bottom of the screen.

Just to try to make it a little clearer what the issue here is, imagine it this way: You have your email program open and you need to find a certain email. The thumbnail view in Photoshop like you're saying is the best option would be the equivalent of me having my email set up to have the body message of that email showing in every preview, thus taking up more room on the preview window, and making me have to scroll like 10-20 times as much as I'd have to then if I just had a quick list view on that email program where I could just see the main details of the email (like name, date, subject, etc) in a quick list view. That make more sense?

The reason people are accusing you of being a spokesperson for that 3rd party program is cause you keep bringing it up and toting it like it's the solution here, when almost nobody here, except you, is satisfied with browsing files that way.

Thanks, Rich.

I think Mr. goblledygook up there actually accused me of working for the codec company.

But I suppose you're right about it seeming like I'm with Adobe, even though the employees of Adobe get special EMPLOYEE indicators under their icons. I just like my chicklet Layer Styles avatar.

Thanks Noel, I'll look into that.

Also, I believe people make accusations towards you because your profile picture is of an Adobe brand, suggesting an official voice, rather than your own face. So it's not too surprising that people come to this assumption.

No. I have no connection with them whatsoever, except that I paid my $14.95 and am a happy customer.

I'm getting kind of sick of being accused, whenever I try to help here, of being here for purely selfish motives.

Don't get me wrong - I agree with you - I just needed an immediate solution to a vexing problem. Adobe can't/won't 'fix' the issue any time soon so I had to take the best alternative route I could find. It just so happened that the codec pack I bought did genuinely have system wide benefits which I think should be brought to everyone's attention. After that, the decision's yours.

Do you work for the company?
