P: Opening pdf - colour mode seems completely random

In my workflow I have to open pdf files in Photoshop. When the popup window asks a spec for size and resolution it always used to keep whichever colour MODE was last used.
Since a recent update it now seems to choose one completely at random - regardless of whether the pdf is RGB or CMYK or Grayscale.
I ALWAYS need to open these in CMYK Mode (that is, in fact, the point of the exercise). Why does it go to a random choice? Why has it changed from holding its previous value.
Resolution holds its previous value - please correct the Mode to do the same, just as it always used to.

I've just discovered something even worse about this issue.
When I open a multi page pdf in phoshop, when I change the selection to all the pages on the preview, THE COLOUR MODE CAN CHANGE AGAIN!
See screenshots below, showing what is happening. The PDF being opened has been created in InDesign (Up to date version, same platform as me i.e. windows) On Page 1 all items are in Device CMYK, and on page 2 the images are RGB.

No 1 -  as I first go to open this PDF in Photoshop - you will see Photoshop offers GRAYSCALE - why?:

No 2 - I change the mode to CMYK:

No 3 - I change the selection to open both pages of the PDF - and the COLOUR MODE CHANGES

Please will somebody fix this bug - it only began to happen about 3 months ago, as I said. It was after an update.

I did the update, just in case it had magically changed, but it's no different.
The post from Cristen Gillespie illustrates the problem exactly.
I have been using photoshop since the very first version, and since the functionality to open pdf files was introduced I have never seen this happen until about 3 months ago. It is VERY annoying to have to watch out for another bug, or to have to do the job twice because of it.

I have the update and perhaps he is talking about this. I opened one that was sRGB. Said to open as CMYK. Closed it after opening. Next one opened as sRGB. One after that, as grayscale. See the screenshots—opened first in Acrobat, then dialog when opening in PS, then opened in PS.  I certainly never told PS to open any PDF as a Grayscale.

We weren't able to reproduce this. Have you updated to Photoshop 19.1 update which went out late last night.
