P: Paste in place shifting error

As mentioned here, Paste in place appears not to be working correctly in Photoshop 21.0.2 (nor in 21.0.1, or 21.0.0).

Here is the issue:

  • A path is created that comes off of the canvas
  • Right click and select Make selection... so that the marching ants run off the canvas
  • Using the shortcut (cmd+shift+v) or selecting Edit > Paste Special > Paste in place, the new copied element shifts up by around 30px and is not pasted in place.

If the path doesn't run off the canvas Paste in place appears to work correctly.

Photoshop 20.0.8 was the last version to work correctly, so I've rolled back.

Best,
Tom

Track as a different issue

Please reference the new conversation here: Photoshop: Paste in Place doesn't work correctly when copy and pasting Frames

I've just discovered that the fix doesn't apply to Frames. Copy a framed image from one document and paste-in-place into another and the offset is wildly wrong.

That's with selecting the frame to copy. Selecting the image rather than the frame and then pasting into a new document does paste the image with correct offsets, but of course it's no longer framed.

I can confirm that this is no longer a problem in 21.1.0 (MacOS 10.13.6). Thanks to the engineers for fixing it.

This should be fixed in the 21.1 update that went out last night.

Why this crucial issue was not addressed in the last patch release v 21.0.3 ?

I've rolled back to 20.0.8 and now Pasting in Place works as expected. Having encountered several other bugs with 21.0.2 I’d advise sticking with the older version for now.

Copy from one PSD to another (same canvas dimensions), then paste with Edit > Paste Special > Paste in Place, the pasted object has incorrect offsets. The offsets should be identical to object in the source document. This problem first appeared in recent (2019) versions of Photoshop, previous versions would paste precisely to the same offsets.

Great. That did it! Thanks for the video. I'll have engineering look into this.
