P: Photoshop 22.0: Where is Line Weight/Width and Pixels options?

I'm having trouble using the Line Tool in PS 22.0.0.

How do I set the width/weight of the line? In PS 21 there was a "Weight" option along the top bar, but I don't see that anymore. Am I missing it? Or did it move?

This might be a separate issue, but the lines I'm drawing are not showing up. I have a fill color and stroke color selected, but when I make a line, I don't see it. I just see a blue outline of where it is... the same that might happen if I made a "path" instead of a "shape."

I just need to make a line with a width/weight of 20px.

Hello, I use Adobe Creative Cloud and on Photoshop in the 2021 update (Windows), using the "line" tool, it is not possible to select the "pixel" item which remains gray, as if the option was not available.
It is therefore possible to select only "shape" and "path".

My work in Photoshop just came to a crashing halt when I tried to draw a 10 pixel red arrow to point from label text to an object in a photograph. The ability to draw a 10 pixel with a proportional arrow by typing in 10 and drawing MUST BE RETURNED. What were you guys thinking. I just wasted an hour thinking I had the tool set wrong, or was going crazy, only to discover you destroyed my simple life and now I must quit working in photoshop because now it I have no idea how to draw a simple arrow, in any colour, with a simple proportional arrow head at the end. after trump losing today, this just proves the world must be coming to an end soon. I just downgraded to the previous version to keep the universe from exploding. I think I saved humanity, my sanity and others.

I have to say that the line tool is basically broken when it didn't need any fixing in the first place. Bwalters1 said it best, "Needed only to draw a simple straight line on a photo. A simple task -now made complicated. The solution?  Use an earlier version of Photoshop. A step backwards."

@Robert Hurt On the "the behavior of the shift key on scaling":

Not entirely sure what you mean, but there's a tick box "Use Legacy Free Transform" in prefs > general. That makes the shift key force proportion when scaling, as it should.

There is a way to revert the shift key for scaling. I’m not in front of my computer, but it’s somewhere in the preferences. I think the line item is Legacy transform. Check it, and you should be good.

Re: shapes... I noticed this, too, and somehow found the legacy ones buried in the actual folders. I managed to cut & paste them into the current version’s folder, and then load them.  Granted, now I have some duplication, but I shapes are there.

This change is going to greatly impact my workflow and I'm going to reconsider my subscription. As a 2D painter, I don't need stroke options and arrowheads; I need a very fast way to create straight lines directly onto a raster layer. The proposed workarounds won't solve the problem and I'll likely end up using competitors' software on my future commercial work. Extremely disappointed in this decision, as are all the other PS-using concept artists and painters I know.

Why is Adobe ruining basic workflows with every update now? Last time it was reversing the behavior of the shift key on scaling (with no way to revert to the old behavior to satisfy years of muscle memory).

Now it's wrecking the use of the line tool. One of my fundamental workflows was to create single/double-sided arrows using the tool. The resulting geometry was very useful, and very flexible, and I could do things like show the line AND add a stroke around it.

Now something that took me 30 seconds to do is 2-3 minutes of mucking around with boxes and polygon tools and rotations and alignments for a compound geometry that is far less elegant than the old arrow geometry.

Oh and if I go look for a double-arrow shape... I get trees and dogs instead. Once there used to be basic useful geometric shapes in there.

I swear this was literally one of the first things I tried to do after the update and now it's broken permanently "by design."

@mark_dahm

What good is a line tool that can't draw lines?

What do you think people use a line tool for?

What were you thinking?

IMVHO disabling the PIXEL option in line tool was a BAD IDEA!!!

PLEASE REINSTATE IT?

Thanks for your patience.

I agree--I used old the line tool effortlessly to make leader lines on my scientific diagrams.  This change is impossibly kludgy--I can't even figure out how to make a line now!
