P: PhotoShop 22.2 unusable

Directly after installing the PhotoShop 22.2 update I activated the new preset-sync option. The first sync completed successfully.

A little bit later, without working in PhotoShop and no open images, my system reported to be short on available RAM. On my MacBook Pro with 16GB RAM activity monitor reported, that PS ist was using 120GB!! RAM. The only solution was to kill PS.

Subsequent attempts to deactivate the preset-sync failed with a crash. It didn’t matter whether I chose to keep or delete the synced presets. Meanwhile PS continued to consume more than the available RAM.

Had to revert to PS 22.1.2, but have major concerns because the 22.2 Update contains security relevant fixes.

Thanks Joel, I think it was straight after the update. I'm not aware of 'enabling preset sync' at any point.

At the end of the night I hit update on Photoshop and another cc programme and when I came in the next morning I started to notice issues. I had Premier open too and initially assumed it was because I had been running both solidly for most of the week so reset and just work in Photoshop only.

I was working on a pretty small file (Just a 72dpi psd) for most of the last two days and while that was a bit sluggish I didn't hit crashes.

Occasionally though I was opening larger files, 100-300Mb and they had real issues and gave out of RAM messages. Tried increasing the scratch disk. Closed and reset the machine but hit the same issues.

Test on a larger 650Mb file the programme takes an age to open and grinds to a halt when switching tools. First though I had a corrupted file or something.

It was only when I noticed the issue repeat regardless of the file I tried to work with that it clicked in my head that the issues appeared after the update.

I downgraded to previous version earlier today and everything is back to normal. (Though I still get that odd rectangular marquee tool drawing odd shapes every now and again with this previous version.)

If I can test anything to help you guys out just let me know.

@allistair_burt

Is this only after enabling preset sync, or did you notice the issues immediately after updating to 22.2?

@paul_kidda_corless Appreciate that you are frustrated, but this won't help anything. Did you encounter issues with 22.2 out of the box, or was it only after enabling preset syncing?

The root cause is your developer team are now a bunch of incompentent amateurs that don't care about professional graphic designers any more and are more concerned with some kid on there ipad swapping a head onto a unicorn.

Sadly same problem here too. Two computers, one with 32Gb Ram and I keep getting out of Ram errors and PSD files that were previously easy to work with last week are suddenly being sluggish and crashing constantly.

@Guido Bittner I believe someone on our team has already been in contact with you. I will have them send instructions to collect the logs we need.

Did you have this issue only after enabling preset sync, or was this your out of the box experience with 22.2?

Photoshop 22.2 cannot open ANY PSD on my PC.
I also get an error when trying to close the app.

I have to crash it in TASK MANAGER.

Reverted back to 22.1 and it works fine.

Not sure what the deal is.

Let us know... I use it 10+ hours everyday.

Thanks.
