P: Photoshop 27.10: "Edit in Photoshop" from Lightroom Classic & Lightroom Desktop does not load image with Denoise

Since today’s Photoshop 27.10 update, the “Edit in Photoshop” command in Lightroom Classic 15.5.1 is not working anymore for me. Photoshop opens automatically as before (if it’s not open yet) but no image is being loaded. Downgrading Photoshop to 27.9.1 resolves the issue and the “Edit in Photoshop” functionality is back to normal. I also tried to change the external editing file format from TIFF to PSD or PSB but this didn’t make any difference. Anyone else facing the same issue?

I’m running macOS Tahoe 26.6.2. Closing and re-opening LRC and PS didn’t solve the problem, rebooting the machine also didn’t show any effect.

P.S.: I posted this in the Photoshop forum as well

    Hi everyone,

Thank you for the detailed reports and reproductions here. It has been really helpful in isolating the issue quickly. I’ve filed this for the engineering teamto investigate and prioritize.

In the meantime, here are confirmed workarounds:

    • Downgrade to Photoshop 27.9.1 via the Creative Cloud app (Other versions > 27.9.1).
    • Alternatively: Temporarily disable Denoise in Lightroom Classic before sending to Photoshop, then re-apply back in Lightroom, or it using Camera Raw as a filter inside Photoshop.

We understand this disrupts a core editing workflow and appreciate your patience. We'll update this thread as we have more information.

Encountering this same issue with the latest versions of Lightroom and Photoshop installed. Not being able to do the denoise and open in photoshop is majorly disrupting my workflow. I will try downgrading back to a previous version and see if that works

Do you’re using AI denoising in Lightroom? If yes, it’s aknown issue:

@AxelMatt thanks. Yes, indeed, I did use AI Denoise with those images that could not be loaded directly from LR.

Topic: Lightroom Classic: “Edit In Photoshop” fails for some CR2 and DNG files

I am experiencing a problem when sending certain files from Lightroom Classic to Photoshop.

The issue does not occur with every photo, but frequently enough to be disruptive. It also appears to be file-specific: files that fail using the normal “Edit in Adobe Photoshop” command also fail when using “Open as Smart Object in Photoshop”.

    When I select either:

    • Edit In → Edit in Adobe Photoshop

    • Edit In → Open as Smart Object in Photoshop

for an affected CR2 or DNG file, Photoshop launches normally, but the selected image is not opened. The usual colour-space confirmation dialog does not appear either. There is no error message; after Photoshop has launched, nothing further happens.

The affected files include both original Canon CR2 files and DNG files generated by Lightroom Classic itself when creating HDR merges.

For additional testing, I have also exported affected CR2 files as new DNG files. The newly created DNGs open and work perfectly normally in Lightroom Classic, but they still cannot be sent to Photoshop using either of the above Edit In commands.

However, if I open either an affected original CR2 or DNG directly from its folder in macOS Finder using Photoshop, the file opens without any problems.

This therefore appears to be related specifically to handing certain files over from Lightroom Classic to Photoshop, rather than to Photoshop or Camera Raw being unable to read the files themselves.

    System and versions tested:

    • macOS Tahoe 26.7.1

    • Apple M1 Max

    • Lightroom Classic 15.6

    • Camera Raw 18.7

    • Photoshop 27.10.0

    • Photoshop 27.11

The problem occurs with both Photoshop versions tested.

I can provide example CR2 and DNG files that reproduce the problem via a download link if required.

Is the edited image denoised? There is a known bug where denoised (and also super resolution) images cannot be send from Lightroom to Photoshop. Photoshop will launch, but will not open the image.

OK, let’s try three different options. You may have already done one of these. Do one or all.

    1. Quit and restart LRC
    2. Shut down and restart your computer (not restart, shut down)
    3. Rebuild your Preferences:
Open your Preferences and hold down the Option key. At the bottom of the Preferences window, you’ll see the option (in the middle) will change from “Reset All Warning Dialogs” to “Reset all Preferences and Relaunch.” Click that one.

    Let us know what happens.

HI, @Bill Keefrey, can you please let us know exactly how you are trying to open that file in PS? Same with exactly how you are opening an unedited raw file in PS (from LRC).

Also, for the record, which version of LRC and PS are you using, and what is your operating system (and which release).

Lastly, in your Preferences, under External Editing, what do you have listed?

    Thanks!

    Running LRC v15.6 Build: [202609251514-f839cde9] ; Photoshop v27.11.0

I’m unable to open filed from Lightroom Classic into Photoshop as layers. Photoshop just hangs in a grey blank screen with no error msgs. I need to Ctrl/Alt/Del to end the Photoshop process to close out.

Is this a known error and if so, is there a fix?

    Thank you
