P: Photoshop 27.10: "Edit in Photoshop" from Lightroom Classic & Lightroom Desktop does not load image with Denoise

Photoshop launches and works normally on its own.

If Photoshop is already open, selecting "Open as Layers in Photoshop" in Lightroom does not open any images. Photoshop remains on the Home Screen.

If Photoshop is closed, Lightroom launches it, but Photoshop displays a gray screen and becomes completely unresponsive. I have to terminate it using Task Manager.

Sending a single photo from Lightroom to Photoshop using "Edit in Adobe Photoshop" works correctly.

Loading the same three photos directly in Photoshop using File > Scripts > Load Files into Stack also works correctly.

Most importantly, downgrading Photoshop from 27.10.0 to 27.9.1 completely resolved the issue without changing any Lightroom or Camera Raw settings.

The same three photos now open successfully as layers from Lightroom.

This strongly suggests a regression in Photoshop 27.10.0 rather than an issue with Lightroom's External Editing preferences.

BEST WORKAROUND.

Dont listen to the staff they clearly arent users of Photoshop or Lightroom. If you remove denoise and open in photoshop you WILL NOT be able to apply denoise afterwards. 

The only work around besides reverting to older version is to make all your Lightroom edits, apply Denoise, then export. After export you can import into photoshop to edit a Denoised image. This is a huge pain but hopefully this issue will cause enough pushback and enough eyes on this issue that Developers will see that we need to be able to denoise more than just raw files. 

Photoshop 27.10.0 freezes when using Open as Layers from Lightroom Classic 15.5.1

• Photoshop: 27.10.0

• Lightroom Classic: 15.5.1

• Camera Raw: 18.5.1

• GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER

• Operating system: Windows 11

Issue description:

When I select three photos in Lightroom Classic and use the "Open as Layers in Photoshop" command, Photoshop freezes and does not open the images.

If Photoshop is already running, it remains on the Home Screen without opening any files.

If Photoshop is closed, Lightroom launches it, but Photoshop displays a blank gray screen and becomes completely unresponsive. I have to terminate the application using Windows Task Manager.

Troubleshooting performed:

1. Sending a single photo from Lightroom to Photoshop works correctly.

2. Opening the same three photos directly in Photoshop using File → Scripts → Load Files into Stack works correctly.

3. The problem occurs when using Open as Layers from Lightroom Classic with Photoshop 27.10.0.

4. I downgraded Photoshop to version 27.9.1 without changing Lightroom Classic or Camera Raw.

5. After the downgrade, the same three photos opened successfully as layers using the same Lightroom command.

Conclusion:

The issue appears to be a regression in Photoshop 27.10.0 affecting the Open as Layers integration with Lightroom Classic.

Please investigate and fix this issue in a future Photoshop update.

When in lightroom and I click on the image I want to develop, I click edit in Adobe Photoshop 2026 but it won’t open up in photoshop. Photoshop opens but the photo will not pull in. 

Did you Denoise the images? If so, this could be the issue: 

**Summary**
In Lightroom Classic, "Edit In > Open as Layers in Photoshop" with two edited Nikon NEF files makes the whole system unresponsive for a long time. The same two unedited NEFs open as layers normally. Exporting the edited files as 16-bit TIFF from Lightroom and using Photoshop's "Load Files into Stack" works fine, so the edits themselves render correctly. The problem appears to be in the Open as Layers handoff.

**Steps to reproduce**
1. Select two edited NEFs (high ISO, 64000) with [list edits, e.g. Denoise / AI masks / Dehaze +57 / Clarity +55].
2. Photo > Edit In > Open as Layers in Photoshop.
3. The system freezes. Processor use stays under 10% and memory around 80% of 32 GB.

**Expected:** Photoshop opens a two-layer document, with a progress indicator while Lightroom renders.
**Actual:** The whole PC becomes unresponsive, with no progress indicator and no way to cancel.

- AMD Ryzen (3D V-Cache), 32 GB DDR5-5600
- AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24 GB, Adrenalin 26.9.1 (clean install, Factory Reset)
- NVMe SSD for OS, catalog, Camera Raw cache (50 GB) and scratch disk
- Lightroom Classic [version] / Photoshop 2026 [version]

**Already ruled out**
- Photoshop Beta (uninstalled) and regular Photoshop both affected
- Photoshop started with third-party plug-ins disabled: still freezes
- Graphics processor turned off in Lightroom and Photoshop: still freezes
- Source files copied from the HDD to the NVMe drive: still freezes
- Integrated Radeon graphics disabled; clean GPU driver reinstall
- Windows Defender scans clean

**Please address**
1. Open as Layers hanging or locking the system with heavily edited raw files, when Export to TIFF of the same files works.
2. No progress indicator and no way to cancel while Lightroom renders files for Photoshop.
3. A related issue: uninstalling Photoshop Beta removed Lightroom's link to Photoshop 2026, so Open as Layers, Merge to Panorama and HDR were greyed out until I reinstalled Photoshop 2026.

I can provide sample files and system info if helpful.

I got a Photoshop 27.10 update yesterday. Strange, because 27.10 was already installed (I did not downgrade). I ran the update and this seems to have fixed the issue. A denoised iPhone 17 DNG, sent from Lightroom Classic, opened just fine in Photoshop. Is this an official fix (if so, why no change in version number), or purely coincidence?
