P: Photoshop CC 25.9 (non-beta) Error: 0xc0000142

Hi,

I've noticed that there has been an isssue reported with Photoshop CC 25.9 (beta) here about Photoshop failing to start with error 000142.

https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/photoshop-beta-v-25-9-cannot-be-started/m-p/14591455?search-action-id=547761064070&search-result-uid=14591455

However, it looks like this is now occurring on the released version of 25.9.

Photoshop auto-updated itself today (was working fine before), and I  now get the same error 000142 when I try and start it. This is NOT a Photoshop beta version.

This is on Windows 10. CPU is a 14 year old Intel core i7.

I know it's old.... but it's been working fine with no issues 🙂

Is this no longer supported?

If that is the case, why did the auto-updater allow Photoshop to update?

Am I going to need to downgrade back to the previous version or is this issue going to be fixed?

Seems very strange that if Adobe knew of this issue that v25.9 would be released without fixing it.

If I do need to downgrade, how do I do that? I can't see a way to select a version to install.

Thank you for your help

Liz

As of the most recent update. I can no longer open photoshop. I now get the message:application was unable to start correcty 0xc0000142
Everything is up to date. I can only assume it is because i cannot upgrade to windows 11 (i have an older motherboard). Or that adobe has chosen to no longer work with my CPU. Is anyone else having this issue or has found a resolution that doesn't involve needing a new CPU just to run photoshop? Illustrator and After Effects runs fine.

Uninstall photoshop 25.9 and install previous version using link below. When prompted pick version 25.7 (or later if you prefer)

Thank you nikunj.m for your solution, At last someone came up with a solution without all the nonsense about what is wrong with the nasty customer. The solution is to roll back to version 25.7 and the error dissapears. Bugger v25.9. Use the suggestion by nikunj which step by step gives you the solution:

Please try rolling back to the previous version of Photoshop (21.25) using the steps suggested here: https://adobe.ly/2wH0JjE

Please uninstall the latest version of Photoshop first & select the option to Keep Preferences prior to installing the previous version.

The solution is going to be a new computer. Adobe will likely fix their compile targets in the next release to fix this, but its a shot across your bow. You probably can't run Windows 11, either.

@PIERRICK38439822f8b7 nobody here can tell you when Adobe will release bug fixes/updates, the issue has already been reported here

Hi everyone,

I recently installed Adobe Photoshop through the Adobe Creative Cloud platform, but I'm encountering an issue when I try to launch the application. I receive the following error message:

"photoshop.exe - Application Error. The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142)."

My system configuration is as follows:

  • Model: HP Z600
  • Processors: Dual Xeon E5620
  • RAM: 20GB DDR3
  • Storage: 256GB SSD
  • Operating System: Windows 10

I have tried reinstalling Photoshop and restarting my computer, but the issue persists. Any suggestions on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, i wanted to know why i can't open Photoshop, i bought it today and everything seem to be okay but once i tried to open that error appeared on my screen.
I did a research and that appears to be "not matching the system requirements" as it "requires" a proccessor with SSE 4.2, but i searched which SSE version i have on my proccessor and it says SSE 4.1/4.2 so i'm confused... Should i use an older version? If the answer is "Yes", which one?
