P: Photoshop CC 25.9 (non-beta) Error: 0xc0000142

Hi,

I've noticed that there has been an isssue reported with Photoshop CC 25.9 (beta) here about Photoshop failing to start with error 000142.

However, it looks like this is now occurring on the released version of 25.9.

 

Photoshop auto-updated itself today (was working fine before), and I  now get the same error 000142 when I try and start it. This is NOT a Photoshop beta version.

 

This is on Windows 10. CPU is a 14 year old Intel core i7.

I know it's old.... but it's been working fine with no issues 🙂

 

Is this no longer supported?

If that is the case, why did the auto-updater allow Photoshop to update?

Am I going to need to downgrade back to the previous version or is this issue going to be fixed? 

 

Seems very strange that if Adobe knew of this issue that v25.9 would be released without fixing it.

 

If I do need to downgrade, how do I do that? I can't see a way to select a version to install.

    i am getting this error everytime i go to open up my photoshop.  I am currently on a trial version to consider purchasing but i am unable to use features because of this error. Please help

    uninstall ps, including preferences, per https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-remove-app.html
      

    then reinstall using the cc desktop app

    Hi, once updated to PS V25.9.1 I am getting the same 0xc0000142 error code and not able to start PS. I have an older Intel Core i7 CPU 940 @ 2.93 GHz so I ran Intel Processor ID program and it came back with:  

    Intel® SSE: Yes
    Intel® SSE2: Yes
    Intel® SSE3: Yes
    Intel® SSE4: Yes

     

    So why doesn't PS reconize the SSE set?

    My processor also passes the SSE. It funny PS beta works fine.

    Have tried all the "fixes" recommended, nothing has worked to fix:

    photoshop.exe application error "This application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application.

    Al intentar abrir Photoshop me sale un error 

    Error oxc000142

    Y no se como solucionarlo,he actualizado todo lo que tenia que actualizar y sigue sin funcionar

    No tiene ningún sentido que unicamente sea un problema de CPU. En mi caso, misma cpu y funciona correctamente la beta 25.11.0 pero no así la estable 25.9

    I recently went from windows 8 to windows 11 as the hard drive failed on my PC. I now have it back and have downloaded photoshop however when I then try to open it after download is successful it comes up with error code 0xc0000142 and wont open. Any help will be greatly appreciated

    Ive been dealing with this for 2 months now! I've uninstalled and reinstalled. Removed everything from my computer as I was told it was a storage issue.  Ive ran it as admin, and still get the issue.

      Es un problema recurrente y bastante curioso. Acabo de instalar la última beta de Photoshop (25.11.00) y me funciona perfectamente. La versión estable que me funciona también sin problemas es la 25.7 pero, cuando instalo la actualización 25.9.1, esta deja de funcionar y lanza el consabido mensaje de error. La Beta 25.10 tampoco me funcionaba y la estable 25.9, tampoco. Que alguien me lo explique porque lo cierto, es que no tienen ningún sentido.

      Hello,

      I have the same Problem. The last version is functioning perfectly well, but after the update photoshop

      doesn´t start and shows the same error.

      I hope this gets solved soon.
