P: Photoshop Update 27.9.0 Washes Out Image Exports

I just updated my Photoshop this morning to version 27.9.0 and now, no matter what file format or options I use to export an image, the export appears washed out or sun-bleached.

On a Reddit, I found the solution (posted 11 hours ago, very much in the same timeframe as I began experiencing it), which is to go into Preferences, under Performance, and uncheck Use Graphics Processor:

Hey everybody, the fix for this issue has been pushed live today with 27.9.1 release, if you don’t see it yet in your region keep checking back. If the update doesn’t show right away, log out of CCD and back in, this can trigger a clean list of updates.

Your working space doesn’t matter. What matters is that the image has an embedded document profile. This will always override the working space.

Always make sure the profile is embedded.

That status bar tip is really useful, didn't know you could set it to show the document profile like that. Just turned it on.

Checked my file and it says Adobe RGB (1998). So the document itself is in Adobe RGB even though my working space is set to sRGB, which explains a lot.

So the fix is to convert the document to sRGB first, then export? Or is it enough to just make sure the profile gets embedded either way?

I'll try both on the same image and see what changes. Thanks for pointing this out.

Please set the Status Bar to »Document Profile« and post meaningful screenshots of one image open in Photoshop and in one of the applications with the faulty display.

Sure, I'll get those together.

Turned on Document Profile in the status bar and my file shows Adobe RGB (1998), so that's already telling me something.

Haven't tried that one yet, thanks. So convert the document to sRGB first, then export without the convert box ticked? I'll test it on the same file tonight and report back.

Are you Exporting or using Save As?

Mostly File > Export > Export As with "Convert to sRGB" ticked. I've also tried Save a Copy with the profile embedded, same result. Should I be sticking to one of them?

Hello, my edits look rich in Photoshop, but the exported JPEG looks flat everywhere else. Reds go dull and skin tones look a bit grey. Opening the same file back in Photoshop looks fine, so it only shows up in other apps and on the web.

Setup: Photoshop 2025, Windows 11, calibrated monitor.

Already tried:

Working space set to sRGB IEC61966-2.1
Export As with "Convert to sRGB" ticked
Save a Copy with ICC profile embedded

The sRGB conversion helped a little, but the shift is still there and clients notice it.

Is this a monitor profile problem on my end, or am I missing a step at export? Happy to share screenshots.

Turning off the graphics processor limits some of your editing ability. And you get warnings when you export a file from Lightroom into Photoshop telling you about it

I’ve been checking back for the past 5 days and the update still is not available. The workaround sure slows my workflow down a lot.

I updated Photoshop to version 27.9.0 this morning, and since then every image I export looks washed out, faded, or almost sun-bleached, no matter which format or export settings I try.

I found a fix on Reddit that worked for me: go to Preferences → Performance and turn off “Use Graphics Processor.” After disabling it, the exported images look normal again.
