P: Photoshop Update 27.9.0 Washes Out Image Exports

I just updated my Photoshop this morning to version 27.9.0 and now, no matter what file format or options I use to export an image, the export appears washed out or sun-bleached.

On a Reddit, I found the solution (posted 11 hours ago, very much in the same timeframe as I began experiencing it), which is to go into Preferences, under Performance, and uncheck Use Graphics Processor:

Hi all, patch is on the way - in the meantime, the most correct fix in the current build is:

Click ‘Photoshop 2026’ from the top menu.
Settings… > Technology Previews...
ENABLE `Precise color management for HDR display`
Restart Photoshop

The name of the setting sounds counterintuitive, but it should be ON at this time even when HDR display or images are not involved. This will allow you to keep GPU acceleration and get the correct color management of the document to display the same as before this bug showed up.

Precise color management suggested by Srishti Bali did not change anything for me. The only thing that worked was disabling the graphics processor. Hopefully that is only a temporary solution and a fix is in the works.

Reverting back to 27.8 seems to work for me while keeping GPU processor going.

I concur this just started with recent update. What in the world!!! See screen capture. Left shows INDD display, right shows RGB image in Photoshop without any adjustments—two or three times as bright as the original file.
IMAC 2020, OS 26.5, PSD 27.9.0

Adobe, please stop messing around with the programs so much.

Thanks, Shristi and Mr+Hahn. I had the same results as Mr+Hahn, checking the boxes for both “Precise color management for HDR display” and “Use Graphics Processor”—leaving both on after a restart of Photoshop—appears to have solved the issue.

Are you using a Mac?
There’s a bug in Photoshop for Mac that renders images washed out.
The solution is to go to Preferences > Technology Previews, and uncheck Precise color management for HDR display.
Let us know if that fixes the issue.

Thanks for reaching out, and I'm sorry you're experiencing this issue with the latest Photoshop release. Could you please try the following steps?

Go to Settings > Technology Previews.
Uncheck "Precise Color Management for HDR Display."
Restart Photoshop.
If the option is already unchecked, toggle it on and off, restart Photoshop, and let us know if that makes any difference.

If this doesn't help and the problem persists, please share your System Info report:

Go to Help > System Info
Click Copy
Paste the entire report in your reply.

Also, share a few screenshots if possible. This information will help us investigate the issue further.

Initially I did as @brandonmiltgenSZ did, went to Performance, and uncheck Use Graphics Processor. Now I tried turning it back on to use this fix @Srishti Bali posted and as expected the images I opened were washed out again after I enabled the GPU option.

On my machine, “Precise color management for HDR display” was already unchecked. I did as instructed above, “If the option is already unchecked, toggle it on and off, restart Photoshop” and that didn’t fix it. I still had washed out images with the “Use Graphics Processor” option enabled.

So I checked the box for “Precise color management for HDR display”, left it checked on, hit ok, and restarted Photoshop again. This time I got normal images and it has remained normal after a few restarts of Photoshop with no issues. So for me, checking the box for “Precise color management for HDR display” and leaving it on has fixed my problem with with “Use Graphics Processor” box also checked on.

Weird that it’s backwards for me. I’m on a Mac Studio with M4 Max and Photoshop 27.9.0
