P: Photoshop Update 27.9.0 Washes Out Image Exports

I just updated my Photoshop this morning to version 27.9.0 and now, no matter what file format or options I use to export an image, the export appears washed out or sun-bleached.

On a Reddit, I found the solution (posted 11 hours ago, very much in the same timeframe as I began experiencing it), which is to go into Preferences, under Performance, and uncheck Use Graphics Processor:

Hi all, patch is on the way - in the meantime, the most correct fix in the current build is:

Click ‘Photoshop 2026’ from the top menu.
Settings… > Technology Previews...
ENABLE `Precise color management for HDR display`
Restart Photoshop

The name of the setting sounds counterintuitive, but it should be ON at this time even when HDR display or images are not involved. This will allow you to keep GPU acceleration and get the correct color management of the document to display the same as before this bug showed up.

This is a known issue. A patch is on the way. In the meantime, the most reliable workaround in the current build is to enable the Precise Color Management for HDR Display Tech Preview option in Preferences. Check out this link for more details:

I have a 2024 iMac. After the latest PS 2026 update, all photos (Raw, JPEG, psd., etc) are low contrast and washed out. What gives?Edit

Thanks for the response. However, that option has never been enabled in either version of PS on my machine.

I have a 2024 iMac. After the lates PS 2026 update, all photos (Raw, Jpeg, psd., etc) are low concrast, and washed out. What gives? Everything was fine when I went to bed last night. And now it’s not. The only images affected on my screen are those opened in PS. I’ve restarted my computer and PS, to no avail.

That’s interesting as it sounds just like the problem I’ve experienced. Have you determined whether you have the GPU use turned on in Settings>Performance? If it is checked, please try unchecking it, restarting PS and see what happens.

I don’t recall if an update preceded my problem starting. It’s possible. Updates happen so frequently I just tend to install them. But if that’s the case I’d expect the problem to be quite widespread.

Once I checked the use precise color for hdr it resolved for me. You do have restart photoshop after enabling it. I had it disabled for years because it used to cause problems but I think something got fixed.

Image is significantly lighter on Photoshop beta then when exported. When viewing my file on photoshop beta, it looks like as if I placed a 50% white layer over the whole image. This is happening to multiple files. Not every file though. Does not happen with regular photoshop. I believe it’s some kind of view change from a hot key but I am not sure. Please help.
