P: Photoshop v27.9.1 Save As PDF - Size limitation in 27.9.1 compared to 27.8

Using Save As Photoshop PDF, I was able to save PDFs above 50,000 pixels wide yesterday using 27.8.

After updating to 27.9.1 this morning I could no longer save a Photoshop PDF above approximately

30,000 pixels wide  (Photoshop PDF was no longer an option in the dropdown).

After reverting back to 27.8 I can now save PDFs from files over 50,000 pixels wide again.

Using File > Open to rasterize a PDF always had this size limitation to various degrees, my memory had it as 32,000 PX on the longest edge, but it might have been 30,000 PX. In earlier versions the image was distorted when rasterizing beyond this limit.

Not sure about the 50,000 PX.

The alternative was to create a document at the required pixel dimensions, then use File > Place as that used a different algorithm.

@selondon @Dreamy_questionerf14c We did make a change in 27.9.1 that only affects files with 32-bit depths.  Those no longer save to PDF.  Are the files your trying to save as PDFs 32-bit? If not, something else is going on.

I can confirm this issue after the latest update, Hopefully Adobe restores the previous behavior soon. I often read troubleshooting tips from [removed] too.

    Hi All

Thank you for reporting this. Since it has been confirmed by multiple users that the issue is reproducible and only occurs in Photoshop 27.9.1 (while the same file works as expected in 27.8), this does appear to be a regression.

To help us investigate, could you please share the following?

    • Your System Info (Help > System Info > Copy, then paste the details here).

    • A sample PSD/PSB file that reproduces the issue. If you can't share the original due to confidentiality, a simplified file that still exhibits the problem would be helpful.

    • A short screen recording showing the workflow in both versions (27.9.1 and 27.8, if possible), demonstrating that Photoshop PDF is available in 27.8 but missing from the Save As dialog in 27.9.1 for the same document.

    • If possible, could you also confirm the document dimensions (width × height in pixels), color mode, bit depth, and whether this occurs with every file over approximately 30,000 pixels wide or only with specific files?

This information will help us with further investigation. Looking forward to your reply!

    Hi @Srishti Bali

Unfortunately I cannot share the files or a video as they are live work under NDA.

All documents are CMYK (Fogra 39)

This looks like a possible regression introduced in Photoshop 27.9.1, especially since the same file workflow works again after reverting to 27.8.

A few details may help narrow this down:

    • What is the document size in pixels (width × height) and color mode?
    • Are you using the same PDF preset/settings in both versions?
    • Does the issue happen with a new test document as well, or only with existing large files?

If it is reproducible consistently only in 27.9.1, I would recommend submitting it through Adobe’s bug report form with the sample file details and the exact steps to reproduce, so the Photoshop team can investigate.
