P: Program Error saving photoshop files to Google drive

Recently, whenever I make a change to a Photoshop file that is saved on Google Drive and then try to save those changes, I keep getting this error:

Could not save “(filename)” because of a program error.

We use Google Drive at my job to save and share files between coworkers and computers. It has never been an issue until now.

I either have to delete the original file and save again or save as something else which is annoying and when you're trying to save your work as you go. I don't have any problems saving over a file that is on my hard drive. It's only when saving over a file in Google Drive.

I'm using macOS Catalina (version 10.15.16) and the most current version of Photoshop CC.

There has to be some way to fix this. Help please!

Its not a bug and Adobe didn't fix anything.

This is probably the most frustrating part of doing tech support- when someone ignorant demands that "this software do what I want!" even when its just not technically possible.

You obviously don't get the meaning of "not supported" which means "it may or may not work, and we don't claim that it does, and we won't help to make it work."

Google drive is wonderful in many ways but it misses that part and doesn't bother to solve it. I solved my problem by switching to Dropbox. It may not be ideal for you but here it solved with a single 3TB account. I use it on 3 Macs and 1 Windows.

The question is not asking for official support, because we know Adobe wants us to pay for their underwhelming Adobe Cloud. There is a correct answer, and it is how to get 'Save PSDs directly to Google Drive' working again. It's worked for years. It only stopped functioning with certain Photoshop versions in conjunction with certain operating systems.  Just because its not officially supported doesn't mean that is not the solution.

People buy aftermarket solutions to all aspects of life. Your expectation is that the manufacturer does not come in 5 years in to your aftermarket solution working and run an update that breaks that functionality. And if they do, the expectation is that the change will be reverted. Adobe did fix the bug for some operating systems.

There is no correct answer. Google Drive was not supported in previous versions, either. Do you not understand that? You MAY be able to get it to work, for a while, until it breaks again.

While your truth is true, it is not the answer to the question they were asking. They were asking how to get the Google Drive save reinstated. Your answer, while true, is not the answer to their question, and this is why it is unhelpful.

:sigh: You can't just demand that things work the way you want them. The truth is not unhelpful.

GOOGLE DRIVE IS NOT SUPPORTED AND MAY OR MAY NOT WORK.

Lumi, that answer is horribly unhelpful. In order to save to Google Drive directly, you will need to choose your software: you can either install an older version of Photoshop from Adobe Creative Cloud or update to Mac OS Monterey. I had the same issue and was not able to update due to Monterey to some software not yet supported, and chose to revert to a second install of Photoshop (2021) where it works. If you scroll back in posts, you can see the exact version if that helps.

Once again, Google Drive is not supported in Photoshop. It may work, for a while, under some conditions, but it may just as easily break again. You have to save locally and then copy to your Google Drive.

I face this problem as well. Started happening about two months ago and it really distroyed my workflow.

I'm on MacOS Catlina. I followed the advice here to reinstall google drive to the lateset version, and the issue was dissapered for a day, but now the problem is back. can't save over a file to google drive. I have the latest versions of Photoshop, Google Drive installed.
