In Photoshop 27.4.0 you can't multiply dimensions with Image->Canvas Size tool. There's an error "A number between 1 and 300000 is required. Closest value insterted."

Division, addition, subtraction are working as before.

Thanks for the disabling the ‘Modern UI’ tip - That’s good for now.

But I hope Adobe still considers this a bug because eventually this new UI will be foisted upon us without choice. Hopefully I’ll be out of the business by the time they take the ‘Use Legacy Free Transform’ option away too..

It is a bug and it will be fixed. Disabling the “modern user interface” is the workaround for now, that’s not the fix.

There is another issue with the Modern User Interface where Canvas Size doesn’t follow the User set units. If your units are set to inches, Canvas size defaults to pixels.

Indeed. Fractional pixels makes absolutely zero sense. I’d call that a bug.

However, I can’t say I miss the arrows. I think this is more intuitively clear, but that’s just me.

Unchecking Settings>Technology Previews>Enable Modern User interface seem to “fix” this issue.

[the change takes effect immediately, contrary to ‘i’ text stating that a Ps restart is necessary. It is not. With the setting unchecked, entering decimal values warns that “an integer between 1 and 300,000 is required”]

In Canvas Size in 27.5, when you’re in Pixels, Photoshop is now allowing floating point numbers which doesn’t even make any sense. This is especially obnoxious because say I want to trim 2 pixels, I used to be able to click in the desired field and hit the down arrow twice. Now, it’s going down by hundredths so you wind up with xxxx.98 which will just be rounded back to the original number when you hit return.

Second, albeit less of a bid deal, but why were the arrows removed from the Anchor Point grid?

Adobe is aware of the issue and until it gets fixed the workaround is to go to Edit>Preferences>Technology Previews, uncheck Enable Modern User Interface and restart Photoshop.

Thank you! This allows the old interface to regain modern features. 🤣

An alternative workaround, without turning off the modern user interface, is to type the numbers then insert the * sign. So for 200*3 type 2003 then insert the * symbol to get 200*3. Canvas size will accept it that way.

    I’m using Photoshop 27.4 on Windows 11.
Since the last update, there was a change in a few value boxes regarding size of the art board, objects and images.

The one box that is specifically bothering me is the Image>Canvas Size (Ctrl+Alt+C), which the new box doesn’t accept * (asterisk) as a multiplication sign as it previously did. I tested other values boxes like generating a new document, a new shape or moving X and Y values for precise object placement, they all accept simple mathematic formulas.

Sometimes I'm working on a carousel and need an extra page, so I have to change the size of the art board. Instead of doing it by head or using an external calculator, I can simply type X*1080 to get the exact amount of panels that I need. Sum, Subtraction and division still work, but not multiplication.

I tried using "X”, like in 100x2 or 100 x 2, but it ends up as 1002. Also, parenthesis aren't working either. Every time I try to use *, (, or ), a message pops up saying it only accepts numeral between 1 and 300000.

This is a known issue. As a work-around for now, go to the Technology Preview section of the Preferences, and make sure the Enable Modern User Interface (I don’t know what exactly it is in German).

This is a known bug. There are two workarounds while we wait for a fix:

    1. Go to Preferences > Technology Previews and uncheck Enable Modern User Interface
      or
    2. Enter the numbers first then insert the *. So, in your example, 2000 becomes 20002 which then becomes 2000*2
