P: PS v27.9.1 Gradient Tool Options Bar Not Functioning

After updating to Photoshop 27.9.1, the Options bar across the top of the UI no longer works. If I create a gradient, if I make any changes to it via the Options bar, nothing happens. I can’t change Gradient presets, change the the type of gradient (linear, radial, etc), Reverse, or method. These all work in the Properties panel, however, and I have to change them from there.

Steps to repeat this bug:

  1. Apply a gradient
  2. Go to the Options bar at the top of the page with the gradient layer selected and make a change to the gradient or click reverse.
  3. Nothing happens. Swapping colors also does not work.

Expected Result: Gradient will change by changing settings in the Options bar.

Actual Result: The options change in the options bar but nothing happens to the gradient.

My computer: Mac Studio 2023, Apple M2 Max, running Tahoe 26.6.2
Installed Version of Photoshop: Photoshop 27.9.1

This appears to be a bug as it is happening since the last update. Thank you.

Not a Bug.
“After you draw a gradient, use the Properties panel or Contextual Task Bar to edit it. The Options bar settings apply only when creating new gradients and do not update existing gradients.”

Options Bar = Gradient Tool settings
Controls the tool / configuration used when creating or applying a gradient.

Properties Panel = selected Gradient properties
Edits the gradient that already exists.

This must be a recent change because I always used to edit in the options bar. Other things still change in the options bar for other tools. This workflow feels like extra steps and is clunky.

I can replicate this in v27.9.1 on Windows 11 using the new gradient tool.
The options bar controls do nothing whilst the properties panel and contextual tool bar controls work as expected. Resetting the tool makes no difference, neither does a full preference reset.
Photoshop v26.11.6 woks as expected.

Can staff please move this thread to ‘Bugs’

Thank you Dave. I posted on Bugs yesterday and Jeff Arola, Community Expert, suggested that I also post here as well for more exposure. He was also able to recreate the bug… unless you are referring to the official bug list!

I sent this as a bug report and Jeff Arola, Community Expert, suggested that I also post this to the Photoshop forum, so I hope I’m in the right place!
