P: Recent Files panel will not open after CC desktop app update (4.1.1.202)

Agreed, the proposed solution for the Adobe action taken to remove the Recent Files panel makes no sense to me. There was always the option to not use it if you didn't want that panel. Now we have a confusing option selection in Preferences that does not work.

The recent files workspace has been blocked through a creative cloud update. Photoshop still gives the option to use this workspace but it is not functional since the last creative cloud update.

The workaround is not a workaround at all, it suggests using ctrl+O and use windows explorer or to close all your files to use the start workspace. seriously adobe???

If this feature was removed for causing issues to some users I understand but you should offer a real workaround for people who used this feature flawlessly. I suggest we get instructions on how to edit the appdata folder so we can regain this useful feature back. That would be a real workaround.

I have no idea why they left the dead 'Show Recent Files' check option in the General Preferences section if they intentionally removed the functionality. It makes no sense and only adds to the confusion and frustration.

Frustrating way for Adobe to handle this. So... why is there still an option in the Preferences to "Show 'Recent Files' Workspace When Opening a File?"

No kidding, all the hours of trouble shooting for no reason. Uninstalling, installing, removing, deleting, etc.... "Simply, we removed this..." would have saved alot of heart ache.

Thanks for the additional information. It goes without saying that when changes like this are made Adobe should make sure to let their customers know. When the problem appeared to be a bug that was understandable, it happens. But when a feature is intentionally removed, especially one you just introduced with great fanfare, you ought to let your VALUED CUSTOMERS know it was intentional for crying-out-loud. Both the Start and Recent Files features were user configurable. Why not leave them that way for the time being while Adobe works out a more optimal implementation?

How does that work? I still have it, although the Start Screen doesn't launch until my custom workspace launches. Is that the trick? I have a custom workspace and it includes the Recent Files panel docked with others?

And if the "future updates" referred to didn't include the Recent Files as we now know it, both with a panel inside PS, and on the Start Screen, I'd never, ever use the Start Screen, and I'd be pretty p****d to lose the panel, which I do use all the time, practically daily—not a workspace, a panel like the CC Libraries panel. You got rid of the  Arrange Document drop down ostensibly to make room on the Options bar, while refusing to save room by putting the Align/Distribute options into a drop down to make space. You pulled Sync after many of us had learned to use it and rely upon it, confusing as it was in other apps (PS got that interface right). Please don't mess with us that way again.  We have long memories.  I'm thrilled to have "future updates" make it even better, but not to take a giant step backwards.

Man, I've been experiencing the same issues... reinstalled, wiped my preferences, etc. to no avail. I'm glad I found this post. Hopefully something gets resolved. I really enjoyed the Recent Files option and it was frustrating for that to suddenly go missing.
