P: Recent Files panel will not open after CC desktop app update (4.1.1.202)

I have the latest version of Photoshop CC 2017.1.1 installed on the Win 7 Pro, 64 bit OS. I have the proper check boxes ticked in Preferences to enable the new Start Screen and the Recent Files Panel. The Start Screen comes up and functions as expected. When I select File>>Open, however, the normal OS file explorer opens instead of the expected Recent Files panel. Today was the first time I've seen this behavior, it did work initially when first activated a week or so ago. I deleted and recreated my PS profile but that made no difference.

I discussed this with an Adobe technician today and after some research he claimed it is an issue for some people with the latest PS release. I did some internet research but could not find any reports of such behavior which seemed odd given what he told me. Is anyone else seeing similar behavior?

Other than this anomaly, PS seems to be working as expected in all other respects.

Any and all thoughts appreciated.

I've logged an issue for the engineering to investigate.

No, we concluded the problem is being caused by the latest update of the Adobe CC app to 4.1.1.202 . See the post from Jstart333 that pretty much confirms the before and after behavior. About all we can do at this point is wait for the Adobe CC app to be updated again.

Thanks for the feedback. See my earlier note regarding my most recent conversation with Adobe. I think you have nailed the issue as I suspicioned it being the most recent CC update. With your system snapshot you have a great before and after history.

I just spoke with another Adobe technician who also told me this is a new issue that is being reported just recently.

I have the same problem too.  I have been able to find the cause of the problem on my computer.

The problem occurs after installing the newest version of Create Cloud Desktop 4.1.1.202 released on 06/07/2017.

My PC System's  use the following:

Windows 7 x64 Pro

I use Imagining Software to backup up by system.  After reloading my system which contains Create Cloud Desktop version 4.0.1.188, the recent-files workspace works.

When I update to the newest Create Cloud Desktop (4.1.1.202) the "recent-files" workspace is no longer available and is no longer listed in the Photoshop's  workspaces.

My Solution:

Reload my backup and not update to the newest version of Create Cloud Desktop.

The problem is you can no longer check for and install updates using Creative Cloud Desktop.

To check for updates for Creative Cloud go to the following Adobe Sites:

Hopefully an Adobe rep here will look at this and can think of a way to find out what is going on. It sounds like you've tried everything.

I have both the Recent Files.psw and Start.psw files in the directory as well as a number of other psw files. As I mentioned, I've rebuilt my profile, actually twice now. It made no difference.

> The only extension I have listed there is 'Adobe Color Themes.' This may be another clue. I don't know where those extensions come from. In any event there is no "Recent Files" extension to be found.>

What it sounds like to me is some of you aren't getting the full installation recognized in your interface. When I right click on the Photoshop .app (.exe) file used to launch the app, choose Show Contents, and in Required > Workspaces, I can find Recent Files.psw.  If that's there, than something is possibly farkled with your Preferences. That seems to happen  with an update, especially if anything changed in the Preferences dialog. Somehow keeping old Prefs  corrupt the new Prefs on some machines and not others.

If that file isn't in the folder on your hard drive, though, it might have been a bad installation or an OS conflict. I don't know much about Windows anymore.
