Hello,

After updating to PS 22.0 on windows 10, i am experiencing big lag and stutter while sampling with either clone stamp or healing brush. This lag goes away once i uncheck show overlay in clone source tab group, but this is not a solution as i am disabling a usefull tool functionality. Any ideea what might cause this?

My PC

intel i7 10700K

nvidia RTX 2060 Super 8gb

32 gb ram 3000mhz

gigabyte z490 elite oc mobo

samsung ssd m.2 970 EVO

*giannis_ch I did a couple of things that "fixed" it, at least for a while. 1) Reduced number of history states from 50 to 20, reduced cache levels from 4 to 2. Reduced tile size from largest to smallest. Did Windows updates and rebooted (this made the biggest difference).

Still not fixed in the last 22.1.1 update. It's a retoucher's nightmare. I thought there would be a lot more people complaining!

Same issue and same thoughts too!

I've been having the same issue for a while now. It's getting very annoying that Adobe aren't fixing it as it's pretty core functionality that worked fine for years! I'm wasting tons of precious time and it's slowing down my professional workflow. Not good Adobe!

And on top of that all......this stuttering and delays about sampling is at least 3rd time we are talking about it.....I remember a couple of years ago with a first CC version about absolutely the same problem. After several updates it has been solved. So really Adobe guys, ..... again?

So, I managed to get and test laterst version on PS on my last gen maxed out imac from work. Sampling also does some sort of stutter and lag on stamp tool and healing brush on mac os also. This is really annoying and it's breaking the workflow. Can you guys look into it allready? It seems to be more obvious on 50+ mgpx images.

Have exactly same problem....so ANNOYING!!! And disabling "show overlay" option is not a solution for me either! Adobe??? What is wrong? What does it take so long to solve this BIG problem????

EDIT: I also tried to enable "use windows ink" in Wacom properties.....seems to be quicker, as disturbing white "Alt" icon keep showing under a cursor every time I click it.

EDIT: ufff, after enabling "use windows ink" Photoshop started to something like freeze in some way....it is possible to do some operations as saving the file, but (visible) cursor has only windows arrow, and nothing is possible to do with it

EDIT: no way! with windows ink, it just SEEMS to be quicker....cursor moves quickly with taking sample, but real position of sample is still same delayed as before! Very weird.....

Could this be a problem connected to using the ALT key to sample? Could ALT be connected to another shortcut that causes the program to be confused? At this point I am grasping at straws to fix the issue.

If you are reading this, do me a favor:

Open Photoshop and any picture to work on.

Select the Clone Stamp tool

TAP (don't hold) the ALT key once

Look up at the menu - Are parts of the menu underlined now?

Tap the ALT key again and see if anything changes on that menu.

If I press ALT or tap it over and over, the menu even disappears.

If you're seeing that, please let me know, I think that the problem could possibly be connected to the Alt button and it's making the entire program freak out. I know this is grasping at straws but if Adobe isn't going to address this bug then I'm going to get all windows 98 weird on the problem solving.

Is there a way to assign a different key to Sampling for the Clone Stamp?

Coming back to this to add some details:

I am noticing stuttering and lag while even trying to sample COLOR in photoshop right now. This is Adobe Photoshop 2021. I can see that the menu flickers when the program is lagging, the menu lists literally pop in and out of view. When the program is lagging I cannot sample color or use the clone stamp tool properly. I'm astounded that Photoshop isn't addressing this. We cannot be the only ones dealing with this problem. Editing takes at least 3x as long now as I have to slowly sample and check that the program actually registered it or I'm often undoing incorrect sampling as it pulls from some random spot on the image instead of where I sampled from. It's a mess, Adobe, and it's not worth what I'm paying.

I have:

Show Overlay - Unchecked

Mode: Normal

Flow: 100%

Aligned: Yes

Sample: Current Layer

I am using a mouse and keyboard on Windows 10. I am not attempting to use plugins nor have I installed any brushes. I am using a simple PS 2021 Soft Round brush, hardness set to 0%

I cannot believe that this hasn't been addressed yet.

Same problem for me. Trying to sample quickly while retouching with the clone stamp or healing brush results in stutter and lag. Unfortunately, disabling show overlay isn't really a solution, as it makes the tools almost unusable in some situations.
