For that, my friend, you would have to contact Adobe.

Only they can explain away their sheer ineptitudeness.

If you draw a line, you will see the depths to which they insist on being inept.

But that still doesn't complain why it's invisible! And what does "inside" or "outside" mean if the line doesn't create a closed shape?

Oscar - the default line that is created has the line weight set to "inside" the path - because Adobe appears to have blindly copied over the Illustrator path Properties.

You have to draw the line - which you cannot see at first - to the other options of either "centred on path" or "outside path" so that the line will appear. But to have it default to nothing is completely absurd and unacceptable.

And you cannot change the default because the Properties palette is blank until you draw a line.

And there does not appear to be a way to change the line tool ahead of drawing an invisible line as your starting point.

And while I would thoroughly enjoy engaging a useless Adobe tech support person in this... that would no about be a complete waste of my time.

Thanks!

@andrew_croft Hi Andrew, I don't doubt that Adobe's doing something dumb, but I still don't know why a line being "inside" a shape would make it invisible... unless you mean that the shape is filled and the fill is overlapping (and covering up) the outline.

That is indeed monumentally dumb... and unprecedented in any drawing app, as far as I know.

Hi Oscar... to clarify... it appears they morphed over the shape creation code from Illustrator into PhotoShop 2020, but by default the line "thickness" is on the inside of the shape - which - being **A LINE** means it is invisible. You have to manually switch it over to OUTSIDE.

Clearly - yet another obvious and flagrant example of programmers at Adobe creating useless crap that we have to deal with.

It took me several attempts at drawing the line, checking the Properties, scratching my head, getting really frustrated because... COME ON!!!! a LINE?!?!?!?! I should have been able to draw this in .3 seconds.

But no, we're talking Adobe here.

And I am PAYING for this CRAP over and over and over again each and every month!

I don't think I understand that complaint. How is "thickness inside the stroke?" You mean if you create a closed shape, a fat stroke's outer edge follows the outline instead of the stroke being centered on the outline?

I thought I must have done something wrong when I tried to make a line with an arrowhead at one end.

What a pathetic response from a formerly great company.

So, PhotoShop hell continues as I just needed to use the line tool. Haven't used it in ages.

PhotoShop now has a new approach to the line tool. And it is a disaster. Clearly a developer dreamt this up, because no designer, no one who actually uses PhotoShop would ever conceive of such stupidity.

The line you create, by default, places the thickness "inside" the stroke.

Where is the intelligence in this?

Stupid, stupid, stupid pathetically unbelievably stupid.

And then of course when I save it as a JPG - I get a copy. No surprises there.
