I'm now on CC2021 but I'm coming from CS6, which allowed me to "save as" and overwrite a .jpeg file without creating a new .jpeg with "copy" in the name.

Anyway, I would like for this to be fixed but for the meantime I found a pretty good work-around.

Instead of doing "save as" (like how we're all used to), you'll need to do "export as". I use the default command+shift+S for "save as" and I made a keyboard shortcut command+option+S for "export as". It takes a second for this window to pop up for my computer but from here I can create a .jpeg / .png / .gif / .svg file and overwrite the previous file with the same name and file type.

@brad_dismukes The workaround is an option (as suggested previously in this thread), though relying on bug workarounds for an incredibly long time on a pricey subscription based service, is less than ideal and should be resolved rather than brushed off.

Also, and not to be dismissive, but the issue Photoshop crashing 10-seconds after opening a file could be an issue with your work station. This isn't an issue for me on my newer iMac (2019) or my older workstation (2013). I feel this would be a bigger gripe than not overwriting project files if it was common. Hope you're able to resolve (fresh OS install, perhaps? Perhaps run Disk Utilities first to see if anything is flagged.) Cheers.

So I ran the latest update and found that opening any file would crash the app after about 10 seconds. I know this isn't exactly on topic, but it's yet another example of how things are not going well with Photoshop. I had a Time Machine back up to the previous version so I didn't have to rely on the CC app to roll back to the previous version. As for the Save As and replace issue, naming the file Any_File_Name copy.jpg will overwrite any further saves as intended. While having a set of files with "copy" in the name isn't the best option, but it does solve the overwrite problem. As workarounds go, it's not all that bad.

@Treehouse Customs LLC I can confirm two things. First rolling back to version 22.0 won't solve this issue, still makes a copy file and doesn't overwrite the jpg file. Maybe you tried with a flattened file.

Second, the latest version 22.1, same problem different version...groundhog photoshop FF...day

Yes I went to the oldest 22.0.0

Which version? Can you post a screenshot of the version for reference? As a 20+ year pro user, it’s sad to watch Adobe fall so far.

What version are you "rolling back" to which now, apparently, works when it didn't work initially?
