Just FYI, version 22.0.0 does not fix this bug. If everyone here would take some time to file a bug report and/or post a new forum thread, a few hundred posts about it would be wonderful.

Photoshop 2018 use to be able to override (Save on top) of an already existing JPEG file.

In the new version (2019, 2020), the extension "-copy" is added despite telling the app to override (Replace) the file.

How can I disable the new "feature" without rolling back my OS to an older version?

note: Before answering anything you believe is relevant, please go through the steps mentioned above to make sure you understand and are familiar with the issue being discussed.

Photoshop 2020 21.2.4

Mac Pro (2019)

macOS Catalina 10.15.7

Thank you.

I think that's exactly why it's so infuriating. Thank you for putting it so eloquently.

Class action might be the only way to get them moving. They create features that I don't want, change things that have worked perfectly for 30 years to make them nearly unusable and then introduce time wasting bugs like this one that they don't bother fixing.

Why did they even add the "copy" to the file name - I know what I want to name my files - I don't want Adobe stepping in with their ideas (that's a laugh in itself) on how to name my files.

Unfortunately, Adobe likely has its ass covered with the legalese all over their agreement pages you are supposed to read before accepting and proceeding to install their software. Though, we might have a case with the idiot support people who claimed this was a "new feature." I've head that and am completely floored.

And now I see that Affinity software no longer opens native INDD files, haven't tried AI and PSD but likely same issue. You have to export all Adobe docs to be able to open in Affinity apps.

So, Adobe has your money, and won't strive to do anything but the most basic of updates to keep their costs down.

The important thing is to expose them, here in these forums, and on Facebook.

Eventually, they might get it. Or become another Quark.

Does anyone know how to begin a class action suit?

This problem has been driving us all crazy for a year now. Clearly, Adobe doesn't care, and clearly, it's totally useless to keep posting here in the hope that they will do something about it. In a non-monopolistic world we would all be looking for a better software to use, but unfortunately, there are no other valid options.
While Adobe takes advantage of the lack of competition, making its customers pay the price, they should also know that they are causing substantial damage to their brand and the credibility and respect that we all used to have for this company. The lack of fixes, or even an acknowledgment of the issue (they don't even recognize it a such) is downright disrespectful.

I've been using their CS for work for more than 20 years, and I'm honestly appalled.
What the heck happened to this brand. They used to be cutting edge.
Now it feels like we're all looking for another player to step in and give us a more effective product.
I wish I would go back to a Pre-Catalina world and reinstall my previous version which worked just fine.

@Brad_dismukes

I have Affinity Designer because I try to stay clear of Illustrator for small stuff. I don't work in vector any longer, I used to, now I work in vector for fun or small things so I don't use it much but I enjoy Affinity Designer better than the situation that is Adobe Illustrator. Unfortunately, I'm dependent on Photoshop for photo editing ... for now.

I can give Affinity Photo a shot for personal photos.

Right, I forgot, the problem is WAY worse than the humble jpg.

The problem isn't isolated to JPGs. It also saves a Copy when saving as a PDF or PNG from the "Save As..." command. It's a systemic problem.
