Absolute pain in the ass, I agree 100%. My suggestion would be, and I know this is a simple one, use the workaround I gave, it seems to be the most efficient way to keep a fast work-flow, and wait for Adobe to fix their bull sh!t. Though your situation in particular is definitely on the more scary side. Use extreme caution in your case, best of luck.

I've been doing this and it can be nerve-wracking when the file names are so similar. We save to a server and when it "moves to the trash" it will just be completely gone, unlike a local drive. NO room for error. My coworker found in Photoshop documentation that Adobe Photoshop does NOT support saving files on MacOS to a server.

I can't stand the split purpose of "save as" and "save as a copy". What a huge disservice this is to Adobe's VERY large user base.

I am fortunate to have 3 monitors, one of which has all my work folders open.
I've learned (Been conditioned) to keep a "Holding Bin" folder that I save all my  jpgs to, since this began.
I typically go delete from that window before saving a jpg.
I had not thought about the Right click in the save window.
Thanks!

I don't think "They" comprehend that having to delete the word "Copy" 100 times a day is basically the equivalent of picking at a Scab.
Every time it is done, the user is just more and more aggravated.

Now, while this is all f_cking bull sh!t and needs to be fixed forever ago, I'm going to repost my fastest workaround. When saving as, left click the file name, right click the file name, move to trash, save. You will need to select the file type, i.e. jpg, png, etc. I do hope this helps because this forum is long as f_ck, and I certainly wouldn't go through all 18 pages at this point (unlike a certain user who thinks people have that kind of time)... Here's a pic for reference:

updated to the 22.4.1 it is sad that this has not been fixed on 10.15.6 Mac OS Catalina. the only suggestions I have after reading posts here are to change the key command for the "new feature" save as (can you tell my eyes are rolling) to the key command (command-shift-s) which we are all used to and when in the new window you can either manually take the word (copy) out or another reader suggested to use the option key to select the file to delete it before saving or lastly the easiest select the file and this will change the name which you can then overwrite. Adobe messed this up they know it they said it in chat messages to us when discussing it they (adobe) try to blame apple try to blame everyone but their own software.

So, is there going to be a subscription discount, since all Adobe can give us are "Sloppy Workarounds"?

they (ADOBE) call it a feature. they blame apple. they blame you since your not updated. they say it only effects apple. they say its an issue. they say that they have a workaround and fixes with the latest update. they change saving all around and then say again its fixed and its apples issue. SO why is it that with all that Adobe Photoshop workaround feature new saving option DOES the word COPY need to be added to any file name if as you say it is not an issue and its fixed and its apples fault??????
