P: Selecting groups expands the group (breaks actions and other workflows)

I don't know about the rest of you but since I updated Photoshop to the new CC 2017 my actions that I've either set up or purchased no longer work. This is a frustrating issue because this is how I primarily edit all my photos. I've purposely set up actions to help with my work flow and they do not work with this new update. Please fix this issue or point me in the right direction.

okay I am not sure what that article  has to do with the photoshop folders automatically opening all the time then the designer having to go close them all. I am not buying a new computer to fix the problem. I want an option on our layers palette that lets us control the group folders opening automatically. We would like to turn this off. Please fix this, it has been a problem for a long time. It wastes time and is annoying for anyone who uses multiple layers to design. PLEASE FIX.

I've come across an issue in Photoshop 2017. If you have a group in the layers panel and it is closed like how it is in the screenshot below, it will open if you click anywhere in the red box, or if you move to the group using keyboard shortcuts.

The group should remain closed unless I click the ">" symbol. This new behavior is very annoying. Groups should stay closed unless I explicitly open it. Using the screenshot below as an example, if I now move to "Groups 2" either with a mouse click or keyboard shortcut, it will expand, and if I then add a new adjustment layer, it will go into "Group 2". The expected behavior should be that "Group 2" remains closed, the new adjustment layer goes on top of "Group 2".

This strange behavior was not in photoshop 2015.

WOW....

I'm so happy with the bug fixes, especially this one regarding the group layers. Im finding it exceedingly rare for companies to actually listen and fix issues with products now a days but I really have to give it up to Adobe on this matter.

Thank you Adobe!

The issues with expanding groups should be addressed with today's CC 2017.0.1 update: http://blogs.adobe.com/photoshop/2016/12/photoshop-now-supports-touch-bar-on-the-new-macbook-pro.htm...

This is my main source of frustration as well. Not only does it break actions and 3rd party panels that I've bought from adobe.com, it also dramatically slows down my workflow. Instead of being able to add a new adjustment layer on top of a layer group with a keyboard shortcut, now I'm forced to stop what I'm doing, grab the mouse, click the tiny ">" symbol next to the group folder to collapse the group before I can proceed in my retouching.
It is incredibly frustrating.

Having some frustrating issues with the groups. Another bug I noticed is that if you are selecting items and you happen to select a group (selecting it in the working area, not layers panel) and you either create a new layer or click to add text, it automatically puts that layer into the group. Previously, the new layer would be created above the group, giving you the option to either keep that layer as is or place into the group but at least the option was yours.

I really hope the issues with the groups get fixed soon. Its almost pointless creating them when they auto - expand, creating clutter when they weren't meant to help organized your layers.

Is there an ETA as to when this will be fixed? This bug is a huge time waster!

This is also a big annoyance for me. I have many nested groups of layers. When I try to traverse the layers and layer groups in the Layer panel with option+[ or option+] it automatically opens the groups as I go past them. Huge time waster and adds several hundred unnecessary clicks to close the layers groups each day. Please fix. (Also while you are at it, please stop automatically expanding the comp layers in After Effects too!)

yeah, it's a very frustrating bug introduced in Photoshop CC 2017. Anytime you click a group layer, navigate to a group using keyboard shortcuts, or eve selecting the Group Mask will cause a closed layer group to expand. This is causing a lot of problems for my actions and 3rd party panels too.

There are no solutions for this problem, read the official response in this thread for a (poor) temporary workaround. The workaround might fix some problems in an automated action, but it won't fix issues caused by interacting with the group.
