P: Selecting groups expands the group (breaks actions and other workflows)

I don't know about the rest of you but since I updated Photoshop to the new CC 2017 my actions that I've either set up or purchased no longer work. This is a frustrating issue because this is how I primarily edit all my photos. I've purposely set up actions to help with my work flow and they do not work with this new update. Please fix this issue or point me in the right direction.

Hey everyone,

 quick
question, I've searched through forums and google for this answer but I
cant seem to find a solution, which Im sure its probably a simple fix.

 Whenever
I select an element that is located within a group folder, the group folder expands which is a bit of pain because I tend to have various groups that might make up a single element. This becomes especially annoying when I select multiple elements which are located in various groups because my groups expand in the layers panel, cluttering up all the organization I have.

The only reason why its something Im searching a solution for, is
because prior to updating to cc,  my groups would not automatically expand if an element was selected in the working area.

I would appreciate it, if anyone could find a solution to this,

Thanks guys!

Cheers

First I already posted this (it even auto-filled my title!)  and now the post is gone. So here it is again...

Pre-2017, when editing the name of a layer group, the TAB key would take you to the next visible layer.
Now in 2017, the TAB key takes you to the next layer for the first instance, but then every TAB after takes you to the next layer and if it is a group OPENS that group.

What this means is if you have a group that contains 10 nested layers. And you duplicate the close group a dozen times. You can no longer rename-tab-rename-tab-rename-tab-rename.
What happens now its Rename-Tab-Rename-TabOPEN(tab through x20 more layers).

this must be a bug?

I can confirm on my Macs. I always name my groups as I create them—I start to get lazy or distracted otherwise— so I've never used your method before. I don't see how you could keep using that method with this response.

Yep. Huge issue with this behavior. Thanks for the input on yet another way it is affecting users. The more people who chime in, the better.

I often need to create many duplicates of a group, then rename them. Pre-2017 this meant simply clicking on the top group (with all groups closed) then type in the name, hit tab (which takes me to the next name) and repeat to the bottom of my list. This no longer works. Now with 2017 when I rename that first group and hit tab, the tab takes me to the next group but then expands after group after it. Which means I have to tab through a dozen nested layers to get to the next group that needs to be renamed. These layer groups should not be expanding unless i click on the ">".

This problem happens since the 2017 update.

If I create a group (folder) with a couple of layers in it and mask the group, it expands whenever I click on the mask.

This is really annoying. Does anyone have a solution how I can turn that "feature" off?

Steps:
1) Dokument with many groups
2) Renaming first group in the row via Double Click
3) Hit Tab to jump to next group to rename the next group directly

Expected result:
Jumping through all groups in the row to rename them

Actual result:
Jumping to the next group and opens it and then jumping through all nested groups and layers of current group in the row.
----
Now I need to Double Click each group or layer in a row to rename. Its super annoying.

I recently updated to the 2017.0.0 release of Photoshop CC. I have created actions and panels for Photoshop which use the Select Backward command, so that they aren't layer/group name specific. This ensures that the action or panel script can be run multiple times without breaking because it's not looking for a specific name for a group or layer.

Well, using the Select Backward command on a group, now expands those groups before selecting the next visible object below. I've got 3 groups I want selected and then placed in a master group. However, now the Select Backward command opens the first group, expands the second group as it selects it, then selects the first layer inside of the second group, instead of simply selecting the 3 collapsed groups. The result is that the top 2 groups are put into the master group as expanded groups, and the last group is left collapsed outside of the master group.

This behavior has not existed in any other version of Photoshop and I'm wondering why it's happening now. I need these panels to work and they are not.

Um, I've been watching some Seven Styles videos and those actions are monsters. I'm about to throw some money at them, but from what you say, they could easily be victims of this. This bug says "Acknowledged." I trust that means "To Fix pronto"?
