P: Selecting groups expands the group (breaks actions and other workflows)

I don't know about the rest of you but since I updated Photoshop to the new CC 2017 my actions that I've either set up or purchased no longer work. This is a frustrating issue because this is how I primarily edit all my photos. I've purposely set up actions to help with my work flow and they do not work with this new update. Please fix this issue or point me in the right direction.

The problem is with steps that select groups. They are recorded with “Without Make Visible” but this appears to be ignored on playback so the groups are expanded for those steps. This usually isn’t a problem, but if you create a new layer/adjustment layer while the group is selected (and by virtue of this bug the group will also be expanded) the new layer gets enclosed as a child in the group rather than above the group, which is what happens when the group is collapsed. The result is added layers are not in the correct z-order in the layer stack and the end result of the action is not correct.

The workaround is to add a "Collapse All Groups" (in layers panel options menu) step after any step that selects a group where subsequent steps then add layers/adjustment layers while that group is selected.

The actions I'm trying to use were purchased from here (http://www.film-effect-photoshop.com/) and I've used them for a couple years now with no problem until this most recent update. There is not an error message that pops up or anything. I simply click the action and it runs. All the layers show up on the side correctly but no actual changes are made to the photo. Even if I go through and toggle visibility on specific layers, no changes are made.

I am running Photoshop CC 2017 on a Mac with the most up-to-date operating system (macOS Sierra Version 10.12.1).

If you send me your email I can send you a photoshop action.

Hi Everett,

What happens when you run the actions? Do you get an error? If so could you post a screenshot of it? Is it all actions, or just some that don't work? If you have a smaller action that isn't working could attach here so I can try reproducing.

Also what operating system/version are you using?

Thanks,
Eric
