It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

Photoshop 2021. When attempting to use the Select menu, after choosing Select > Color Range and then adjusting the Range slider, Photoshop freezes and requires a Force Quit.  This occurs regardless of any other sequence performed prior to attempting the Select Menu.
