Photoshop CC 2017: I have the same issue with type tool. Some font are working normal for example: Adobe Caslon. When I use some other fonts like Futura from TypeKit or Museo Sans and most fonts from TypeKit or default, making the type tool unusable. Like choking the photoshop. Its hard to select some phrases, change formatting and other stuff. After choose some options, every changes take about couple of seconds, sometimes wheel is spinning...

I'm working on Mac Pro Tower 2012. 6 cores 3,33ghz, 48GB RAM, ATI Radeon 5770. SSD drives for system, for scratch disk and other ssd for storage. OS X Yosemite.

Of course before CC 2017 everything was working fine.

I have made such as things as:
1. Disable Font Preview - Nothing change
2. Reset tools - Nothing change
3. Check Book fonts and erase fonts with warnings - Nothing change
4. Reset Photoshop settings - Nothing change
5. Disable GPU - Nothing change
6. Clear cache - nothing change

I thinking about moving to the old version of Photoshop.

Absolutely an issue I'm having as well.  Of all things - Open Sans just brings my machine to a complete halt... so frustrating.  Hard to explain to clients why I want to avoid using the font just because it slows Photoshop.

HI Martin,

The bug affects True Type fonts.  If you use an Open Type font, you should find the problem goes away.  Meanwhile, a fix is coming very soon.

Thanks,
David

Hi, still have the same problem. Text tool is unbelievable slow. Can't work with my MacPro 2013. Are there any solutions for that. Updating Photoshop didn't solve the problem.

I'm hoping this bug fix is remedied asap. I'll be waiting for the next patch/update... and I'm hoping the update is for a PC as well.

Hallelujah! 😄  This text tool issue has been slowing my workflow down, so this is *great* news.  Thank you David (and everyone else who has posted)!

I have been able to repro the 100% CPU bug with TT fonts.  So, if this is the problem you're having, then I can see what you're encountering and, even better, I can tell you that we have a fix.  You should see it in the next update to Photoshop.  I'm not allowed to say when that is, but it shouldn't be too long... Thanks,
David

1. The problem is still there and nothing has changed
2. Like I wrote in the main post of this thread, I have checked all the steps from the Adobe Help article and nothing changed.

3. The problem arises with the free fotns & also with fonts from TypeKit for example: Futura, Helvetica ...

I can set up with you to share the screen cast to show you what is going on. The same issue in my agency is with other computers (iMac and 2nd Mac Pro - all running Yosemite. We don't like to upgrade macOS to the newer fresh versions)

The issue with the Type Tool appeared with the Photoshop CC 2017 since first release.

Leave me your contact I will catch you to set up the screen share.

If you're continuing to encounter this problem after having tried the steps found here ( https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-fonts-photoshop.html ), then please read back out to me so I can help trouble-shoot the problem.  It sounds like there is something going on, but we're not seeing this in-house or with our pre-release program.  I'd love to figure out the cause so we can come up with a cure.  Just respond to this thread and I can set something up.

Thanks,
David

Cristen is totally right about "free" fonts and their quality.  If you continue to have problems, I would be more than happy to try and troubleshoot with you live.  Just ping me here and we can set something up.

Thanks,
David
