Photoshop Crashes opening files v25.5

Have had this problem for a while through not just 25.5 but previous versions as well.  There seems to be a good few posts of similar nature although perhaps not with the latest release nor with the exact symptoms.

Crash occurs when opening a file pretty much every time - does not appear to be restricted to a particular format.  The only solution I have found is to try turning off the GPU which usually solves the issue but obviously makes photoshop so slow as to be useless.  I tried turning off the native canvas to see if that made a difference but it just results in photoshop displaying no image at all (blank screen) even though it opens the file and it can be seen in the thumbs for channels/layers pallets.

I've submitted crash reports on this several times in the hopes it may be picked up and fixed in an update but with slim hope.

Latest crash happened when I tried to open a file whilst working on another file (forgetting for a second it is unstable) and it crashed losing me the changes I'd made to the open file.

An update, I've created a new user profile and will be testing it next week, I've also discussed moving away from AD mobile account with our IT dept, they don't appear to have any issue other than ensuring I don't lose any functionality with regard to company network and associated software/features, which I'm hopeful that NoMAD will solve for me.

Anyway will post another update as soon as I've explored the new profile option.

Arrrrgh! it's not that button!

Sorry my apologies that layer controls button turns the handles on for everything eg any layer you click shows with handles - that's not what my issue was/is its the handles that shold appear when pressing command+T to transform a selection/layer those handles dont appear and I have to hunt for them.  I'm not sure if they are controlled by that switch and in fact I'd say they aren't.  I prefer not to have bounding handles visible for every layer as it just interferes with the viewing of the file/image but when transforming something with the edit transform command I like to be able to see the controls.

I stand corrected weirdly when I looked at that button it definitely said centre point/action centre visibility and now it's doing as you say turning transform controls on/off.

Either I'm going mad or pshop is throwing curveballs at me.

Thanks for helping with that issue anyway I'll look there when it decides not to show the controls again.  I have no idea why it turned them off in the first place.  And I cant remember if that was pressed/unpressed when I had the issue before...

Anyway the main issue is still unresolved at least we've isolated that weirdness - thanks.

This turns on/off the action/centre point for the transform - it doesnt control the handles/bounding controls

What happens if you click the transform handle icon to the right of "Layer"?

Strange I don't appear to have that gear icon.

Transform handles are available under the gears icon on the right. Its not a checkbox out in the open anymore.

I think that is my next operation as the transform handles bug is really upsetting me, is there a prescribed way of doing this eg a preferred method - I have the entire creative suite on my system and wouldn't want to upset all those other apps whilst messing with pshop.

Darn. Odd that adjusting those preferences causes a crash. I can't recall - have you tried uninstalling and clearing all prefs and doing a clean reinstall?

Hi Kevin, unfortunately, no 'AHA' moment - pshop still crashes.  I tried it with modified prefs as we know not modifying the prefs makes it work.  the displays don't appear to have an impact.
