Audio Track Re-mutes Automatically After Unmuting in Premiere Pro

Issue Description:
While editing a video, if I mute an audio track (using the Mute button on the track), and later unmute it, the audio plays briefly but then gets muted again automatically without any user action.

Even after manually unmuting the track, it continues to mute itself again during playback.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open a project in Adobe Premiere Pro

  2. Add a video/audio clip to the timeline

  3. Mute an audio track using the track mute button

  4. Unmute the audio track

  5. Press play

  6. The audio becomes muted again automatically without any interaction

Expected Behavior:
After unmuting an audio track, it should remain unmuted and play normally unless manually muted again.

Actual Behavior:
The audio track automatically mutes itself again after unmuting, without any action from the user.

Additional Notes:

  • This happens repeatedly

  • The issue occurs even when no automation or keyframes are applied

  • It significantly disrupts the editing workflow

Please let me know if you need any additional details, logs, or screen recordings to help investigate this issue.

Hi @kalaivanan_pandiyan6898,

Thank you for reporting and sorry you’ve been experiencing issues. We need a few more details to help like hardware and OS information, as well as the Premiere version you are on. Please see How to Report a Problem.

Is the mute button selecting itself again automatically, or does it remain deselected and you are hearing the audio dropping out?

Is this project-specific or track-specific? Are you muting/unmuting directly from the timeline or from the Audio Track/Clip Mixer panels?

Sorry for the frustration,

Dani
