Can't change Custom Effect/Preset name. New name resets back to old one

Made a ton of new custom presets with test names. When I finished up and decided to change their names everything was fine until I closed PP for the day and started a new session the next day. All my custom effects name reverted back to their old names.

No matter how many times I change and save it, the names keep changing back.

Im on windows 10, latest version of PP

Hey,

I have the same behavior with the latest stable version of PP (25.6.1). How can we handle this problem ?
I was looking for renaming all of my presets but it doesn't save my changes anyway.

@Ahmet26047475ozev,

Upvoted. I tested this in PR 2024.0.0, PR 25.3.0, and PR Beta 25.4.0.71. I used the transform effect for PR 25 and Beta, and the Gaussian Blue for 24 and the retest in 25.

These custom presets are saved in "Effect Presets and Custom Items.prfpset". On Windows, it is path

"C:\Users\[User Name\Documents\Adobe\Premiere Pro\25.0\Profile-[UserName]"

When you reopen PR, it loads the presets from this file. And that file was not updating the name change, so when it reloads it is the old names. Except.... sometimes it was changing the names.

The name can be changed by:

1 - double-clicking in the name part of the Effects Panel, which allows you to edit the name in that field;

2 - double-clicking the icon to the left of the custom name in the Effects Panel, which allows you to edit the name in the full preset dialogue; or

3 - right-click the preset and pick Preset Properties and edit as in #3.

At first, I thought I had a workaround by changing the name in the Preset Properties. But all that is happening is that I can't tell when it is going to save that presets file. And I did not want to take the time to exit from PR every time to test it. And this will be easier for staff to sort since they can look at what is supposed to trigger a save.

I did one last retest of PR 25 using Gaussian blur. I added the effect, changed the blur amount, and saved a preset. Then I used method 1, double-clicking in the name part of the Effects Panel and editing the name in to add "Rename." When I opened the file, the name was the original name.

Yes I'm on that version of Premiere. That is the latest version. This issue happened on earlier versions too. These are transform presets. I re-created them from scratch. My original presets kept disappearing upon opening PP because according to another Adobe worker, PP upgraded the Transform effect. So when I made the new presets I wrote things like "NEW" at the end of their names to tell which ones are the old ones and keep track of which ones I've done so far.

I changed them in the Effects Panel. You double click on the name and it lets you type and change it.

Hi @Ahmet26047475ozev,

Thank you for reporting a problem. What kinds of effects were you creating presets with and were the names changed within the Effects panel or the Effect Controls panel?

Confirming you are on Premiere Pro version 25.3.0 (FAQ: How to find the exact version of Premiere Pro you're using?), and that these presets were made from scratch in the project and not imported into the project?

Sorry for the frustration,
Dani
