Constant freezing making editing next to impossible

Approximately every other edit, the application becomes unresponsive for 30 seconds to a minute. During this time:

  • The UI freezes completely
  • Playback may continue, but I cannot stop or interact with it
  • Menu interactions are extremely delayed or unresponsive
  • The system becomes partially unresponsive (e.g., Alt+Tab does not work until Premiere responds again)

This issue also occurs when pressing play, and when opening menus.

The problem began suddenly without any known changes to my workflow or system configuration. It occurs across all projects.

Troubleshooting attempts:

  • Updated GPU drivers
  • Cleared media cache multiple times (both “clear unused” and “clear all”)
  • Tested editing from different drives (including internal and external storage)

None of these steps resolved the issue.

This behavior is severely impacting usability and makes editing extremely frustrating.

    Seen this too.

Mostly when Premiere is auto saving in the background.

Hi @wesley_0295 -   Thanks for submitting your bug report. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue.  Please see, How to Report a Problem?

Do you have any third party plugins or panels installed?

Have you tried creating a new project in version 26.2 and then import your old project?

Can you let us know what your integrated GPU (iGPU) and dedicated GPU (dGPU) driver version is? You can find this information in device manager > display > GPU > driver tab
To isolate if it is a GPU issue can you navigate to Device Manager > Displays and then disable your
integrated (iGPU) or dedicated GPU (dGPU) one at a time

Go back to the older version, my friend. I was also having the same issue, when you click any menu, it freezes for a couple of seconds, but then I realized the interface in Premiere had been updated, and there were new buttons that didn’t exist last week. That made me realize this wasn't due to my computer; it can’t be, so I went back to the old version, and it is fixed. The last version is 26.2. I went back to 26.0.1. Go to Creative Cloud, click Premiere, click 3 dots, click Other Versions, and go back to an older version.

Yes. Tracking mask was improved, but it also works well in 26.0.1. So until they update the 26.2, I will stick with the older version. This happened for the first time. They released a flawed, lagging update, which is crazy for a company like this.
