Constant freezing making editing next to impossible

Approximately every other edit, the application becomes unresponsive for 30 seconds to a minute. During this time:

  • The UI freezes completely
  • Playback may continue, but I cannot stop or interact with it
  • Menu interactions are extremely delayed or unresponsive
  • The system becomes partially unresponsive (e.g., Alt+Tab does not work until Premiere responds again)

This issue also occurs when pressing play, and when opening menus.

The problem began suddenly without any known changes to my workflow or system configuration. It occurs across all projects.

Troubleshooting attempts:

  • Updated GPU drivers
  • Cleared media cache multiple times (both “clear unused” and “clear all”)
  • Tested editing from different drives (including internal and external storage)

None of these steps resolved the issue.

This behavior is severely impacting usability and makes editing extremely frustrating.

I see unresponsiveness every time Premiere auto saves in the background.

As soon as auto save is done I can edit again.

Same problem, been a problem for a few weeks. If I alt tab for anything and then go back to premiere I have to wait 30-60 seconds for it to become responsive again. Its been totally distroying my editing time.
    Whats the fix????

If you’re on Windows, this makes sense. The ALT key is the shortcut on Windows for Menu Acceleration (to put focus on the Menu bar, and make Key tips available). So hitting the ALT key is in practice the same as opening av menu.

To add further. It doesn’t just happen from Alt-tabbing. If i click into another program and then attempt to return to premiere, it freezes.

    Hello @wesley_0295 , @thebirdmann , @valeriiege , @DarthJarJar and @0xxl3

We have been tracking this issue and are still trying to narrow it down. I am sorry for the inconvenience.

So far we have noticed it primarily on Windows PCs that have the Magnifier active. We are wondering if the issues you are facing fall into this same category as the issue linked below, but would love if you would confirm, otherwise the search continues.

Thank you for your help and apologies for the ongoing frustration.

It is extremely similar, however I never have the magnifier enabled so that cannot be my problem. But accessing top level menus will lock up the software for an absurd amount of time as well as some panels.

New version freezes less, that I can say, but it still, as Wesley says, locks up the software for an absurd amount of time. I have not upgraded my Premiere because everything after 26.0 has the same problem. Whatever has changed between 26.0 and 26.0.1 is causing the problem.

Having this SAME issue as well after updating. Editing is literally impossible. I feel like I’ve tried everything

Funciona cada vez peor. Hace semanas vienen estos problemas. Dejé de pagar la aplicación y me pasé a CapCut. Recomiendo que hagan lo mismo, Adobe nos hace perder dinero

I have the exact same issue after updating few days ago. Every two clicks becomes a frozen interface, specially trying to open the bar menus

    Seen this too.

Mostly when Premiere is auto saving in the background.
