Continual Crashing of Premiere Pro

Hi Guys

I recently started a new project after return from overseas holidays.  No matter what I do only after creating no more than 60secs of timeline the program continuely crashes giving the error message  'Premiere Pro has encounted an error and must close' I have tried everything

  • Reset preferences
  • Uninstalled PP and installed previous version. have even gone back to try and get 25.4.0 (Build 99) to work.
  • Over the last wo days I have sent countless number of Error Reports,I have documented everything that is happening.
  1. As a final thought I tried to Create a New Project (Using Stand Template Settings)
  2.  A new location to save to on a different internal Hard Drive
  3.  New Folders to bring footage from
  4.  Copied footage into the folder, only three small video clips to try and start.
  5.  After I had done all this opened the New Project and created a new bin for the footage and imported , then crash.
  6. Sent report and tried again and discovered that the New Project hadn't saved.
  7.  Opened New Projected created one bin imported three small bits of footage and hit 'Save' which 'hung' then crashed so have no idea where to go next.

I just read some post from back 2024 where a user sems to have been experiencing the very same issues ,with a solution suggestion install version 24.0.0 ???

Hi

Just so I can get this clear, if I have checked Ingest in the Project setting PP should do the transcoding, not ME. What I see is as soon as I import files into the project bin ME opens up and begins trancoding which to my logic they would be working against each other if they were both transcoding?? I will uncheck Ingest in the setting and try just ME first to transcode before importing into project and see if that fixes the issue. Also is it normal after transcoding that you would see the Mpeg extension change to a MOV extension??

Will be in touch either  way with the results

Cheers

Hi @JP2512, your presets should work, especially between dot version updates, so getting more details about settings and versions used could help investigate that specific issue further.

Doing the transcodes manually (starting by importing source media into Media Encoder > transcode there > and then importing those transcodes into Premiere Pro with Ingest disabled to edit), can make it easier troubleshoot if there's issues. Using the Ingest method through Premiere Pro can work, but because there is some automation involved it can be harder to narrow down.

I can see how the frames and previews are repeating. Did this only start happening with this specific batch of videos? Wondering if this is file specific. If you excluded the one file that is being repeated into the other videos from the queue in Media Encoder, are the rest of the files affected as well? Under Settings/Preferences > Media, does this happen if you also disable ‘Enable hardware accelerated decoding’ in ME as well?

If it seems like there are a few suspect files causing this, the team can take a look at them if you’d like to share, I can send you a direct message if so.

Well all was going well until I wanted to import some more video files into a bin in the project, when Media Encoder took over and was transcoding them, what ME appeared to be doing was encoding each file as the same. Once it was done and you tried to preview them in the Source Monitor each file played the the same scences althought very jittery (See the attached Videos) what I tried to do was clear them out of the bin and import the again a few times before I gave uphttps://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/lag1lgxc5h8k2yzl813lr/20251020_195426.mp4?rlkey=4hcpj8kf63k38cln51sovqc1p&dl=0

Have been able work  better but what I am seeing now is when the files are being transcoded by the Media Encoder it  is giving all files the same name and dulipcated each one with the same preview in the source monitor, crazy. I have managed to work around it by transcoding one at a time or dragging it straight from the source location and dropping into the timeline , crazy. Will send a screen shot if it happens again.

Okay can understand the issue with Preset  for Sequences so that would mean if you wanted to keep those preset you have to update in new versions? Also the same with Graphic Templates I have been able to import Graphic Templates in as well without crashing

Yes we have been able to work a lot better with those setting changes and also transcoding first before editing.

Thanks hope it keeps up

When you said use the Media Encoder also , so would import those media files into ME then save the into the Media Browers file in the project? I had a couple of Error Crashes in the Media Encoder whilst in PP but it didn't cause PP to crash.

Hoping we ca

Thank you for the update @JP2512, please let us know if the changes and transcoding helps.

Regarding the custom presets for sequences issue—do you recall what Premiere Pro version the presets were created in? (They work in 25.2.3 but not in later versions? Has that been consistent behavior?)

For the CC updates, you can only have one version of a dot release at a time (e.g. 25.xx) so an update or downgrade will replace it. You can have multiple major releases simultaneously though (so 24.xx and 25.xx). Do you mean when you go to Preferences/Settings > Apps, you aren't seeing 'Advanced Options' at all or is it visible but not selectable? Auto-updates have to be enabled, like in the screenshots in this article

Hi

Thanks for reply I appreciate the response as one can often feel forgotten in the cyber space. I will start by saying I have had the computer back to theTech who you could imagine just about closes the door before I walk in, but anyway we have fully removed the AMD Graphic card and now only using the PC own card.

I will try to respond to all you ideas and responses in order.

  • Yes I only use the Samsung S24 Camera for 99% for my media footage on the odd occassions importing some from my partners iPhone 12.
  • You do see a VFR from the clips 29.97/30.00/ 23.97 etc
  • I have now set the Ingest setting for transcode and Apple ProRes 422(Will try that first , then Media Encoder)
  • I went to the Media setting in Preference and noted that 'Enable Hardware Accelerated Decoding' was showing two options (AMD) See attached Screenshot , I have deslected both and will see how that goes.
  • As for Titles it was crashing on titles I had imported from the Graphics Template, ones that I had created previouly and exported ,so I started creating them fresh in the Timeline which seems to have worked. I also noted that I was able to create another sequence using a preset I had created , which it wouldn't allow me to do previously only sequences using default setting?
  • And lastly I uninstalled the latest version of PP and went back to Version 25.2.3 which has in the most with only the odd crash allowed me more editing. I could be wrong but seems better if I just do short editing sessions say 1/2 hour to 1hour??
  • The question I need answered, with the latest CC does it fully remove old versions when loading new because there doesn't seem to be an option anymore to manage installs with 'Advanced Setting"?
  • I will do some editing later on and see how it goes with those perference setting you suggested

Hi @JP2512, very sorry for the delay in response. I understand the frustration and see how this is affecting your ability to work. Thank you for all the information you've provided.

Have all of these issues been in the same project/projects with only the Samsung footage? What are the media file properties for the files? (Right-click file in Project panel > Media File Properties or use another app like MediaInfo). I ask because mobile footage is often Variable Frame Rate and is usually not an editing-friendly codec (
see here for more info). Have you been able to try or work with other formats like ProRes? I see you tried to transcode your files through Ingest. Have you tried directly through Media Encoder instead? Alternatively you could try Shutter Encoder.

You also mentioned a few crashes with titles/graphics—what kind of titles are you making? Are they over the same media files or is the issue with a specific graphics template? Does this happen if you try making any titles in brand new project or empty sequence without any other media?

Can we get an update as we are now getting NO communication on this issue .It would be even something to even say it is the Program or the computer. As we have now had the AMD Ryzen Graphics card taken out and the PC running on its own graphics . I continue to submit Error Reports but no return follow up

Well I am both mentally and physically drained with trying get this PP program to work. My disappointment fro Adobe is there has been minimal solutions offered. Fair enough the Error Reports indicated that the graphic card maybe the issue but that's it.  Further to that on Monday I will take the computer into my Tech and asked for it to be pulled down and reassembled and excessively HARD tested for issues. I have attached my Error Log so you can understand the frustration we are experiencing
