Dynamic Link fails when I use “Replace with After Effects Composition” in Premiere Pro, showing: “The importer reported a generic error.”

Hi,

I’m having an issue with Premiere Pro and After Effects when using Dynamic Link.

My system:

MacBook Pro, Apple M3 Max, 36 GB RAM

macOS 26.3.1

Adobe Premiere Pro 2026 v26.2.2, build 26.2.2.3

Adobe After Effects 2026 v26.2.1, build 26.2.1.2

The problem happens when I select clips in Premiere Pro and choose “Replace with After Effects Composition.”

Instead of opening/creating the After Effects composition correctly, I get this error message:

“Replace with After Effects Composition

The importer reported a generic error.”

    Hi @DanielFriend,

Welcome to the Premiere Pro forums! We are glad to see you here. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue. Please see, How do I write a bug report?

Thanks for including a little more info about your system setup. It looks like you’ve tried testing that in two builds, same version 26 for Premiere and After Effects so far with the same result. Curious what type of footage you’re working with, also.

Sorry for the frustration and hope we can help soon!

    Happy to help,
    Katie
