Grow Effect stops working when using Rate Stretch Tool on Adjustment Layer

When applying the “grow” effect to an adjustment layer that has beed sped up or slowed down, it doesn't work anymore and just zooms in a lot. Does not seem to apply to video layers. Also some of the other “clip length based” effects like “spin” act weird on adjustment layers that have been changed in speed.

Steps to reproduce:
- Add an adjustment layer to a sequence
- speed it up using the rate stretch tool
- apply the grow effect to the adjustment layer

MacBook Pro M2 Pro,
macOS Tahoe 26.2

Adjustment Layer with “grow” effect and no rate stretch, Grow effect acts as expected.

Adjustment Layer with “grow” effect with rate stretch, “grow” effect just zooms in a lot.

@Cinick Can you confirm what overall you’re trying to achieve by using both Grow and then speeding up with the rate stretch? Did you want the effect itself to move faster, the clips below, or are you using rate stretch tool to try to shorten/extend your adjustment layer above?

A short screen recording could help us understand, and you could also try Ann’s suggestion.

Rate stretch tool on an AL does not affect clips below it just interacts erratic with FI effects

It is an incorrect workflow.

I dont understand why OP wants to use the stretch tool on a AL as it does nothing.

An Adjustment layer (AL) does not have Speed only Duration.

The Rate Stretch tool won't do anything to that Adjustment layer.

Add the effect to an AL > nest > then use the Rate STrecht tool to the Nest.

I know that it shouldn't do anything to an AL but it does. It does not seem to effect any properties on the AL exept for the new duration based film impact effects…

If you delete the speed it will act as expected.

In order to help troubleshoot, we do need a few more details to try to help like if Mac (and what macOS) or PC (whether Windows 11/10, plus what driver version & build), and which version & build of Premiere with our bug report details.

It could also be helpful to include screenshots or a quick screen recording of what exactly is going on with your issue so we can take a closer look. Should be small enough to attach here or drop the link at least, if not.
