Mac Studio M4 exports slower than a Mac Mini M4 export from Premiere Pro

  1. Premiere Pro v 25.2.3
  2. M4 Max Mac Studio(512GB, 36GB RAM) Seqouia 15.4.1 & Apple M4 Mac Mini(256GB, 16GB RAM) Sequoia 15.4.1
  3. Exporting videos in any format is taking at least twice as long with the Mac Studio
  4. I would have expected the Mac Studio to export even faster than the Mac Mini with the additional CPU cores, GPU cores and multiple dedicated encoders but exports feel sluggish and take twice as long (if not longer)

I have recently upgraded from a base-model M4 Mac Mini (Sequoia 15.4.1, Premiere Pro v 25.2.3) to a base-model M4 Mac Studio (Seqouia 15.4.1, Premiere Pro v 25.2.3). The Mac Studio is straight out of the box, brand new and is being outperformed by the Mac Mini when it comes to exports from Premiere Pro/Media Encoder. This problem is found with h.264, HEVC and ProRes exports of any quality.

The footage is iPhone footage, 1080p and the export settings used for playing on a Tricaster system are; Quicktime, Apple ProRes 422 HQ, 1920x1080 (1.0), 25fps, Upper, Rec 709, 203 (75% HLG, 58% PQ), Uncompressed, 48000hz, Stereo, 16 bit

Has anyone encountered such an issue and found a resolution? I tried deleting the media cache, adjusting the amount of RAM reserved for other applications and trying to use hardware encoding (only available as an changeable option in HEVC exports). Not sure what else to try from here.

The problem solved itself for me, it was something to do with where I was exporting videos to, the connection wasn't as strong for the Studio

Was this solved? I'm having similar strange sluggish exports that I would've expected to be a breeze for my brand new M3 Ultra

Hi Fergus,

Tried sending a PM with the project files but I was given the alert saying I had reached my maximum number of messages sent for now!

I will put together a report for this issue and if you could PM me I can provide the download link to the project files and set up a call if needs be.

Regards,

Sam

Hi Sam,

That is definitely not the experience you should be having! Would you be willing to share with us a sample project that demonstrates the issue? While you're saying that you're getting this on all projects (I believe), we're not seeing the same performance issue, so it would be best to get a project and media from you.

More generally, getting the info outlined in this post would be useful: https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-bugs/how-do-i-write-a-bug-report/idi-p/13361863

I have a min-spec M4 Mini and a max-spec M3 Ultra Studio sitting in front of me and while they are not exactly what you are using, they are very similar.

I'm also happy to jump on a call with you if you'd prefer.

Regards,

Fergus
