mask traking

Is Adobe aware of how bad the mask tracking is in Premiere Pro?!

I had previously let an agent from Adobe access my MacBook Pro to see how bad the tracking in Premiere is compared to davinci resolve on the same footage & the same computer! even when I dropped the quality to 1080p in Premiere Pro it was still unusable while Resolve sliced through the same footage in 4k like butter!

fun fact I have a pretty beefy MacBook Pro M1 Pro, so computer power is no execuse for Adobe.

just sent you Ben a sample video & a couple of screen recordings to show the difference between Davinci & premiere tracking. hopefully, you guys can fix this already the updates seem very interesting & it's a big waste of time to move back & forth between Premiere & DaVinci just for simple & basic tasks like these.

You can send me the video file.  Also, please describe what object you were trying to track (timecode and description, or a screenshot).

yes, more of performance or speed, I usually get bored of how slow it is so I don't even go far to see the results.

my workflow is usually I start in premiere and then try to color grade in premiere but I get frustrated with the masking performance (speed) so I take it to Davinci resolve for grading (which does magic- tracking speed & accuracy-wise) then bring it back to premiere for vfx & animations which I use after effects along with premiere for. I use different formats mostly Sony a74 h.264 4k or HD, or iPhone nothing special. I would be happy to again give access to an Adobe employee to look at these files.

Hi @Morris Awad ,

It sounds like you're describing tracking performance, or speed, correct?  Or are you also experiencing bad tracking results?

I'm curious what the video format is of the video you are trying to track.  Does your experience change if the video is converted to a different codec?

Would you be able to provide us with the original video file, so that we could experiment with it on our end?

Best,

Ben

I did have a case that was probably around July and Adobe agent tried for over an hour all the possible solutions & looked over all the comparisons with Davinci resolve as I gave them access to my MacBook, & eventually said that it is just not performing well now but will work on it in the 25 version.

Do you already have a case that is filed with us? Or was that a long while ago? Let me know, @Morris Awad.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hello @Morris Awad,

Thanks for the report. Can you provide a screen movie showing the problem? Can you provide a sample clip and/or project the team can test with? Let us know, please. See, How do I write a bug report?

I hope the team can help you soon. Sorry for the issue.

Thanks,
Kevin
