multicam lag in Premiere timeline?

I've been Googling this all day and can't find an answer – what do I do about the (terrible) playback lag when there are multicam clips (or a multicam sequence) in both the timeline and the source monitor? As soon as I clear the source monitor the lag goes away – but how else can I cut with them?
 
I'm on a M4 MacBookPro, 32 GB of RAM, using Premiere Pro 25.0 (downgraded from 25.5 to see if it made any difference - it did not).

I did, yes. What do I do now that I've unchecked it?

There were some multi cam playback issues that were fixed in 25.2.  in your preferences > audio do you have "Generate waveforms automatically during import" checked?
