No Dialogue Found

I'm on Version 23.6.0 (Build 65) and have been for a while with no issues on transcription. This morning I tried to transcribe something and the audio is clear as day, and in the middle of transcription progress bar it keeps saying no dialogue found. So I quit premiere and re opened it. Issue persisted. Restarted my computer. Issue persisted.  Opened it in Premiere Beta. Issue persisted. Please help.

i clicked create static transcript and it transcribed it in 2 minutes. then i pressed some button "generate text based editing transcript" and went back to "no dialogue found"

(i recently wiped my computer about a week ago. installed new OS. i'm even using a brand new user profile upon logging into my iMac desktop in lieu of premiere being unusually slow recently so i doubt its a user profile issue)

@anabella_r,

A screenshot of the timeline might help.

That is good to know. Those tests were earlier, and I don't think they changed that process yet. I'll test again.

What type of file are you dealing with? Does it not work as a regular file? And is the stereo 2 channels with the same dialogue or something other than identical dialogue? You noted that it sounded like there was sound in only one channel?

Are you using Clip -> Audio Options -> Breakout to mono?

That's puzzling to say the least, I upvoted your post, hopefuly more people will do the same and Adobe will have a look into it.

"But my tests indicated that manipulating the file in PR (channel modifications etc) does NOT result in the ability to do source transcription." <- not true. countless times I've taken interviews and changed it to 2 channel mono and put it on a timeline and transcribed it.

Source media transcription only looks at what exists in the source file as "track 1." I don't really know what that means since channels are what I think are in the file. But my tests indicated that manipulating the file in PR (channel modifications etc) does NOT result in the ability to do source transcription.

You are able to do a static transcription, so that may allow you to get the job done.

Even given all that, what is odd here, is that you are able to start a source transcript, but are getting a "no dialogue" message after successfully starting that.

See the workarounds in this feature request:

Do you have any effects applied to your Audio Channels? I usually have this issue when effects are applied, it could be anything, even an audio meter applied can cause the problem. Go to Window > Audio Tracker Mixer, to check that out. You need to remove the effects for the transcription to work. Either way, that is certainly something Adobe needs to review.

its not an issue with the audio channels. it sounded like it was only coming out of one side so i right clicked and chose to make it 2 channel mono instead of 2 channel stereo. and then i took the only channel with audio on it and thats the one that got laid down on the timeline before I hit transcribe.

Thanks for the screenshot. No apparent issue.It looks like it should just work.

Which leaves the possibility of multiple audio channels. Right-click "Camera A_1.mov" in the Project Panel, Modify -> Audio Channels, and give us a screenshot.
