P: 26.3, previously resized clips in existing sequences show Scale Width as 100%, breaking the original framing.

After updating to Premiere Pro 26.3, existing sequences no longer read previous resize settings correctly. Any resize made through the main Scale parameter is broken because the second scale value, Scale Width, is always shown as 100% on previously resized clips. As a result, old framing and resize adjustments are not preserved and have to be fixed manually.

Having the same problem: Uniform scale looks like the video is at a width of 150, height of 100. I tried replacing the footage bc it’s scaled fine in finder

    but that didn’t work.

Is there a fix for this yet? Just have to manually rescale everything?

    There are currently two workarounds.

    1. Make sure Program is set to Full
    1. Re-wrap the footage using Media Encoder and set the aspect Ratio (you could also use the “Make Proxies” option within Premiere and instead choose Full and a matching resolution to essentially create “New Masters”)

Let me know if one of these works for you. I’ll post again once I have news of a more permanent fix.

    Thank you,

    Amy

    Hi @Halcyone Hammond

Welcome to the Premiere forums! Thank you for those additional screenshots and information about the footage and issue. May we confirm more details to better help troubleshoot?

    1. What version and build of Premiere are you using?
    2. Are you on Mac (Tahoe, etc.) or PC (Win11, Win10, etc.) and for PC, which version and build driver?
    3. Is the footage VBR (variable bit rate vs. constant), by chance? I ask because I see with the specs, it’s at 30.05 fps.

On your screenshots, I noticed it’s set to ½ resolution on playback. Does it only do this squish to the footage on ½ or lower for playback on Program Monitor, and does it resolve if you move that to Full Resolution?

Sorry for any frustrations and hope to help,
    Katie

    Hi @KatieToo ,

    Thanks for the reply.

For request no.1, the version was 26.3.0, Build 93.

For the second one, I am working on Windows with a version of 25H2, Build 26200.8875.

The footage was shot in Dolby Vision format with a Leica Leitzphone by Xiaomi (without Log). Sorry I don’t really know whether it’s VBR or CBR.

And for the last question, yes, it resolved when I use the full resolution.

Hope that helps. Wish you a pleasant day.

    Hi there,

Lately I have been editing my clips, among whose some are portrait - so I need to scale them to fit in my landscape canvas. However, when I scaled it above 100%, the playback becomes glitchy.

I have unchecked the “proportional scaling” box, and under this setting the playback also failed to work.

When I change the width proportion to under 100%, things got back to normal, regardless whether the (width/height) is below 1 or the height is above 100%.

The video was recorded in 4K resolution 30fps, with a colour space of Rec. 2100 HLG, 4:2:0 HEVC 10 bit. No alpha, no LUT, and square pixels.

Nothing wrong appeared on my compatibility report, regarding to this video clip. This error happened to every portrait video whose original width is lower than the width of the project canvas.

I am using a Chinese interface so forgive me that I may not name the entries of the UI right in English, but this is really bothering me (too much “silver linings”). Please check this out - I’d be happy to provide you guys with more info.

    Hi @RizzyMissy2000 ,

Welcome to the Premiere forums! To better help you on this issue, we need a few more details. Please see, How do I write a bug report?

I am wondering if your Program Panel playback resolution is set to ½. If you set it to Full, does this issue resolve? This could be a potential workaround as we investigate.

Program Panel, change Resolution to Full

Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

That actually fixed it!!!, BUT the export itself still is squishy which makes no sense

@RizzyMissy2000 You might need to match the exact resolution of the sequence on the initial export. There is something getting falsely flagged when changing between them, and we are looking into it.

Once you have an export without the squish, you should be able to transcode that export through Media Encoder to whatever resolution you need, but let me know if that’s not the case.

Very strange indeed, but all of our systems, software, hardware, os, codecs are so complex and ever changing as we work to integrate everything. Will let you know once we have a fix for it, but hoping this is a good workaround for the meantime.

    Thanks again!

This only happens with certain clips, it doesn't seem to matter whether they're from the same camera or not. In fact, the clips I'm having this issue with were filmed on the exact same camera, only a few minutes apart.

When I press play in Premiere Pro, the footage suddenly gets squished and occasionally displays glitchy horizontal lines, as shown in the attached image. I'm not sure what's causing it or how to fix it, but it's been getting in the way of my editing workflow quite a bit. Please Help!

Both are screenshots I captured while the footage was playing, when I pause on those exact frames the footage looks completely fine

    Hi @onesomeone ,

Welcome to the Premiere Pro forums! We are glad to see you here. We need a few more details to help us understand the issue. Please see, How do I write a bug report?

In addition to the information on that page, it could help to know what effect you are using for your resizes. Are you using fixed effects, standard effects, or a 3rd party plug in? You say “main Scale parameter” but I just want to confirm it’s the Fixed Motion Effect in the Effects Control Panel. You also mention Scale Width, so I’m wondering if the clips in your earlier version had “uniform scale” unchecked to stretch them horizontally? This will help me try to reproduce this on my end.

Thanks for reaching out. I hope we can help you soon. Sorry for the frustration!

    Thanks,

    Amy

Yes, that is correct: I’m referring to the Fixed Motion effect in the Effect Controls panel.

Previously, the Uniform Scale option was enabled, so I did not adjust the Scale Width parameter manually. It automatically followed the main Scale value.

After the update, it looks like Uniform Scale is still enabled: the Scale Width control is still greyed out / semi-transparent and inactive. However, the main difference is visible in the sequence image. The image is now stretched, as if Uniform Scale were disabled and Scale Width were set to 100%.

So visually, the clip behaves as if Scale Width is no longer following the main Scale value, even though the UI still shows it as linked/inactive.

@onesomeone Thank you for confirming that. What version were you in before the update to 26.3? Did you go from 26.2.2 to 26.3 or an earlier version from 25?

It can also be helpful to have the following information.

    • Operating System: Specify Windows or macOS, along with the version.
    • GPU Driver (Windows only): Please let us know your video card driver version. We recommend updating to the most recent version; for NVIDIA users, we strongly recommend the Studio version of the driver.
    • Video Format: If the issue relates to playback or export, please specify the format (and ideally share a sample video).

    Hoping to help,

    Amy
