P: Audio "can't be read quickly enough" from storage

Just started getting this error window today while working on a very simple project that only has a couple After Effects motion graphics clips, and three tracks of audio: VO, music, and light SFX:

Event Details:

Can't access audio

the audio for _____.wav can't be read quickly enough from storage. Please check your storage and try again.

Build:

Windows 11 Pro 26100.3624

12th Gen Intel i7-12700K 3.60 GHz

32 GB of RAM

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060

The local C drive is an NVME SSD, but the file in question is stored on a Synology NAS with IronWolf HDDs. Both the computer and the NAS were built from new parts this year.

Premiere: 25.2, installed this week.

The same error happened on a second computer (same build, also connect to the NAS).

@Anton32910751p307 thank you for letting us know. The team has been pushing fixes on beta, so you should all less of these errors moving forward.

Just wanted to drop in and say that since 25.5.0 (build 13), the error is gone, or hasn't appeared since the update.

This is beyond frustrating now. Cannot complete my project due to laggy playback and this error message popping up

Hi! this is Adolfo from Adobe. Could you send me a video and explain me your setup? Thanks!

Hey! Would you be willing to get on a call to go over your issue?

Thanks!

I have to chime back in and give an update - I no longer get the error that says "audio cannot be read quickly enough" but I do routinely have my audio quit playing back while previewing my timeline. I'm using a thunderbolt 4 external SSD with a thunderbolt cable so I don't think the issue is the speed of the drive.

Oh my God, I'm having the same problem. I have a new client and I'm not keeping up with the deadlines. The audio issue occurs with MP3, WAV, and MP4 files. The same thing happens in After Effects and Audition. Adobe, please fix this problem as soon as possible.

@Adolfo H. I would like to do that, but at the moment I am overloaded with work and am not willing to take the risk and update it to the latest version as I just recently reverted to 25.1, which is the last stable version for me. I don't have the time to try again, so I just monitor this thread until the solution is found and the issue is fixed.
