[Moderator: updated subject line for clarity]

I’m experiencing an issue when using Canon Cinema RAW Lite footage from the EOS C50 on my MacBook Pro M4 Pro running macOS Sequoia. Playback in Premiere Pro 25.6.x works correctly, but when pausing the timeline, some frames display black or magenta bars on teh bottom of the actual frame.

System Details:

  • Mac: MacBook Pro M4 Pro - Sequoia (latest build)

  • Premiere Pro: 25.6.3 (Build 2)

  • Canon Camera: EOS C50 Cinema RAW Lite (.CRM)

  • GPU Acceleration: Metal 3 (20-core GPU) [have tried other settings too]

  • RAM: 48 GB, Storage: 512 GB SSD System Firmware Ver: 13822.41.1  OS Loader Ver: 11881.140.96

    Additional Notes:

    • Occurs only with Canon RAW Lite from EOS C50. BRAW has no uased frame issues

    • Does not occur in Davinci Resolve
    • Playback in Premiere is fine — issue appears only when pausing playhead

    • Happens in Premiere Pro 25.6.3 and 26.x Beta

I'm loving the c50 and while the proxies workflow does work, it's not the efficiency I expect from Premiere. Please can someone restore my sanity..I'm far too old to learn Resolve as well as I know Premeire Thanks

This is classic adobe, too busy jamming new features into the program to fix core functionality that breaks when they add the new features.

Same problem with the newest version 26.1.1
Hope there is a solution in the future...

Hey everyone, I kept having the same issue but I contacted Adobe technical support. The employee suggested to rollback to 24.6.8 and for me at least it now runs like a charm. I can also access the raw settings etc.

So try and install that through the Creative Cloud app!

They haven't fixed it, I don't know why it's working for me now in 25.6.4 but seems like I'm the outlier.

I am reporting that the latest update, Premiere Pro 25.6.4 (Build 5), has not resolved the critical bugs involving Canon Cinema RAW Light (.CRM) files.

  • Product and Version: Premiere Pro v25.6.4 (Build 5)
  • Operating System: macOS 26.2 (Apple M4 Max, 128GB RAM)
  • The Expected Result: Clean playback and decoding of Canon Cinema RAW Light (.CRM) files.
  • The Actual Result:
    • EOS C50: All .CRM files exhibit a black bar or mirrored/pink-tinted corruption on the bottom third of the frame. Open Gate recordings cause severe UI glitches, including missing interface elements.
    • EOS C400: Standard CRM files play correctly, but Open Gate CRM files exhibit the exact same bottom-third corruption/mirroring seen on the C50.

    • Console Errors: The system logs are flooded with "Error retrieving frame" and "Frame substitution recursion attempt aborting" errors for these files.

  • Steps to Reproduce:

    • Import a .CRM file from an EOS C50 (or an Open Gate .CRM from a C400) on an M4 Max system.

    • Add the clip to a timeline or open in the source monitor and attempt playback.

    • Check the Events panel/Console for "Frame substitution recursion" errors.

  • Troubleshooting Already Tried:

    • Full system restart.

    • Complete uninstall and clean re-installation of Premiere Pro.

    • Media Cache cleared.

    • Note: The issue persists across all standard troubleshooting steps.

Additional Context: I've attached a screenshot of erros logged by Premier Pro. The "Frame substitution recursion" errors suggest the decoder is getting stuck in a loop trying to find a valid frame to display when the RAW debayering fails. This appears to be a specific incompatibility between the new Canon RAW metadata and Premier Pro 25.6.4 (Build 5)

Hi all,

We have not made any changes in beta to add Cinema RAW Light support for the EOS C50 or EOS R6 Mark III. We are working on adding raw support for both cameras but I do not have a release date at this time.

We will definitely update this thread as soon as there is more information to share.

Regards,

Fergus

Still not working for me either. I'm getting the same exact issue with a black screen in the program monitor, and green/black and white/negative colors when hovering over thumbnails. Beyond 25.6.4, the same exact thing is happening in the latest BETA version of Premiere as well. The errors in the images below are the two I'm getting alongside the playback glitches.
