P: Glitching playback, including green flashes, during playback and export of 10-bit 4:2:2 media on Windows

We're receiving reports of customers in Premiere v26.5 having glitching issues, such as green flashes, during playback and exports.

The issue appears to be specific to media that is:

  • Long GOP
  • Recorded in the MXF container
  • 10-bit 4:2:2
  • Recorded using a Canon camera, including the EOS R5 C, EOS C50, EOS C70, EOS C80, and EOS C400

If you are having this issue with a file that doesn’t match this description, we are eager to hear from you.

We are currently investigating with a top priority to fix this. For now, the temporary workaround is to roll back to v26.3.2. Apologies for any frustrations with this and appreciate your patience while we investigate.

Thanks!
Katie

    Hi all,

We have identified the cause of this problem and fixed it. A patch for v26 that includes this fix will be available very soon, likely in less than one week.

The fix is also now in Premiere Beta v27.0, build 57 or higher. While we do not suggest customers use beta for production, it is safe to install the beta alongside v26 if you would like to test the fix yourself.

Some customers in this thread have said that rolling back to a version of Premiere v26.x before v26.5.x did not fix the problem - even with the older version, green flashing was still seen in the media. If you’re experiencing this, please hold down the shift key and launch Premiere. In the Reset options dialog that appear, check the box to clear the media cache.

    Regards,

    Fergus

Can confirm rolling back to the previous version fixes the issue.

I spoke too soon. It seems one of my video files is still acting weird. I might actually have to roll back the nvidia drivers. Going to try reinstall first.

Have the exact same issue. One on a 5 year old Dell laptop with Nvidia graphics, and one on a 1 year old Asus NUC Performance (5070 mobile). Started with the latest premiere pro update within the last few days

Agreed. Weird thing is its only happening with one of my projects and It all contains footage shot from the same cameras. So not sure why its only the one file...

Same. Standard MP4 files play back fine in the same project but all the mxf files shot on the Sony FX6 won’t play back. Also exporting a video which contains those files takes about 30-60 times longer than usual. A 1m 45 seconds video is currently estimated to take 53 minutes to export and it’s just standard cuts and overlay

unable to playback any xf-avc footage in my file. if i turn of hardware accelerated encoding the problem goes away but obviously I want to keep that setting on because its better. This happened when i updated my NVidia drivers and premiere so it could be either...

    Hi,

I was having issues on PC Premier version v26.5 where ever few frames were glitching and showing a green screen. After reading this forum I revered back to v26.3.2 (Build 2) now all frames are showing green.

As an update to this, after rolling back i decided to upgrade again to v26.5 and the green flickering frames have gone. Has anyone else found this? My project is only small, would be interested to know if somone with a larger project has the same experience?

Currently experiencing the same issue… Attached video is using V26.3.2 (I hope premiere pro hasn’t destroyed my raw files somehow...)

    Windows 11

    GPU NVIDIA 5070

Cameras: Canon R5C, Canon C70 MXF files. Full green frames. I was on the latest update of premiere. When I opened my project, it was giving me errors for every single frame. Literally every frame was erroring and attempting to substitute frame. I deleted my render cache and attempted to relink all footage. Partially fixed the issue. No more substituting frames but that’s when the green frames were introduced - including errors in export. I also noticed it adjusted my color in a handful of clips. When I relinked those, it fixed the color, but the green frames remained.

Multiple drives and from older projects from years ago. I tested projects I had from over a year ago as well as the most current project I was working on on different external hard drives. Same issue - green frames scattered around.

Installed older version of premiere: v26.3.2 - footage is taking awhile to reload since my render cache is gone. However I had all green frames. After holding the playhead still on the timeline, eventually a frame will load. However I can’t play anything back without full green screen again.

Also like to add MOV footage from a DJI Air 2s and MP4 from a Canon R8 are working perfectly - no issues even though its in the same project.

    Hello @matthewfhenry

Welcome to the Premiere Forum and thank you for your Bug Report. I’m wondering if we could get more information on the file formats. Do you know what camera these are from, and could you include a screenshot of the Media file Properties? In fact, it could really help us to get samples of files presenting this problem in 26.5. Do you have a clip that had this issue you’d be willing to share with our engineering team? I could DM you a private upload link for it.

We truly appreciate you bringing this to our attention and giving us an indication of where this issue was introduced.

    Best,

    Amy

    Hi Amy,

I can’t really provide a clip unfortunately but I can give you details on the file format, camera, etc. The clip is of confidential information that isn’t intended to be publically viewable, otherwise I would be happy to share. The footate was recorded with a Canon C80.

    Thank you, @matthewfhenry

We have had many reports of this so I will be merging this onto a main thread we will be using to track this issue. This will also make it easier to update everyone when there is a fix in the works.

    Issue Description:
Upon updating to Premiere version 26.5.0 (Build 99), I experienced severe playback performance issues. While the audio plays back perfectly fine and smoothly, the video track completely freezes, stutters, and outputs solid "green frames." This issue occurs consistently when trying to preview H.264 / HEVC video files on the timeline.

Disabling "H.264/HEVC hardware accelerated decoding" in Media Preferences acts as a temporary workaround. Rolling back entirely to a previous version (v26.4.0) resolves the issue completely out-of-the-box, confirming it is a regression specific to v26.5.0's hardware decoding engine.

    System Specifications:

    • OS: Windows 11
    • GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER
    • GPU Driver: Latest Nvidia Studio Driver
    • Premiere Version: v26.5.0 (Build 99)

    Hello @kiwon291540894wxp

Thank you for your Bug Report. We are wondering if you would be willing to share a test file that is exhibiting this issue for you. If you can, I will DM you a private upload link to share with our engineers. It would be much appreciated. I’m glad you found the workaround of disabling Intel hardware-accelerated decoding in Media Encoder.

    Hoping to help,

    Amy
