P: Glitching playback, including green flashes, during playback and export of 10-bit 4:2:2 media on Windows

We're receiving reports of customers in Premiere v26.5 having glitching issues, such as green flashes, during playback and exports.

The issue appears to be specific to media that is:

  • Long GOP
  • Recorded in the MXF container
  • 10-bit 4:2:2
  • Recorded using a Canon camera, including the EOS R5 C, EOS C50, EOS C70, EOS C80, and EOS C400

If you are having this issue with a file that doesn’t match this description, we are eager to hear from you.

We are currently investigating with a top priority to fix this. For now, the temporary workaround is to roll back to v26.3.2. Apologies for any frustrations with this and appreciate your patience while we investigate.

Thanks!
Katie

    Hi all,

We have identified the cause of this problem and fixed it. A patch for v26 that includes this fix will be available very soon, likely in less than one week.

The fix is also now in Premiere Beta v27.0, build 57 or higher. While we do not suggest customers use beta for production, it is safe to install the beta alongside v26 if you would like to test the fix yourself.

Some customers in this thread have said that rolling back to a version of Premiere v26.x before v26.5.x did not fix the problem - even with the older version, green flashing was still seen in the media. If you’re experiencing this, please hold down the shift key and launch Premiere. In the Reset options dialog that appear, check the box to clear the media cache.

    Regards,

    Fergus

I was experiencing the green flicker and fall squarely into the specific media parameters you listed. However, rolling back to 26.3.2 presented worse issues, where not only did I get a more constant green flickering but also had artifacts of other clips appearing when viewing in the source monitor.

Rolling back to 25.6.6 now in hopes I can continue to work.

Same, I don’t know why the older version was affected even though previously it wasn’t. something to do with the backend maybe. but I hope this gets fixed soon. Let us know if rolling back to 25.6.6 works for you.

25.6.6 is working well so far, but we’re sacrificing some of the major updates that were introduced in the 26.x.x updates. For me, doing without the object selection tool for masking is a huge drawback.

But at least I can continue to edit while Adobe figures this out - hopefully very soon.

    Any updates @KatieToo?

Can i just add, when using the white balance picker under basic lumetri color on an adjustment layer over c-log 3 it jumps both tempature and tint far left making the footage tinted green. Does not do this on an adjustment layer over my .mp4 footage.

Since they seem intertwined, do we have to revert Media Encoder back to 26.3.2 as well?

yes actually, same with after effects.

Still seeing this issue after updating to 26.5.1 today. Only Premiere... I see that Guides are now fixed at least. Dev team manages to break the most basic features with new versions.

I’ve just rebuilt my project in 25.6.5. That works - a pain to migrate, I was experiencing the Green glitching in 26.5 with Canon (MXF wrapper)

Hello Katie! I appreciate you noticing this bug. I work with MXF files and this is the first time I have had this experience. Canon MXF 10 bit, having glitches, green screen flashes and or sometimes laggy playback. Also, sometimes premiere prompts and error that rtx 3060 12gb vram is not supported and what not. One question, when do you think an update with the fix is released? I really appreciate you Katie!

Update: The only thing that has no issues currently is adobe premiere pro beta.

    Hi Katie,

Confirming this matches my case exactly: Canon EOS R5C, XF-AVC Long GOP, MXF container, 10-bit 4:2:2. Green flash frames appeared in Premiere Pro 26.5's preview and export, not present in VLC or other players, and confirmed not to be a corrupted source file (plays back cleanly elsewhere).

I went through extensive hardware troubleshooting first (GPU swap, RAM, motherboard replacement, clean Windows install) before finding this thread — all of that turned out to be unrelated. Rolling back to v26.0 resolved it completely for me with the exact same files.

Happy to provide a sample MXF clip if it helps narrow down the fix. Thanks for looking into this.

@giacomo22944380ie7t Thank you for giving us those details and letting us know v26.0 was working for you. Yes, let me DM you our Dropbox upload link to grab that sample file for the engineers. Sorry for the frustrations with this, much appreciated!

@Desoto Studios, We don't have any reports of intraframe footage causing this issue as of now, but we are still investigating the cause. Feel free to shoot test footage and if you're willing to share it with us, we would appreciate it. I can DM you a private upload link to share with our engineers.

I just did a test shot , Long op is definitely the issue, Intra frame seems to have no issues.  I did two videos of the same item side by side and imported it into Premeire and instantly the longop glitched green every few seconds while the intra frame remained fine

    Hi @IslandFox

Thanks for stopping by the Premiere forums and giving us those details about your playback/export issues on. I saw you were having issues on XF-AVC footage and mentioned canon c50 & c70. May we request a sample file for both your c50 and c70? Happy to DM you our Dropbox upload link for that.

I saw you mentioned as well down in comments that the issue fixed by rolling back your Nvidia drivers, could we get more specifics on the version/build driver you’re using and which helped?

@Piers27993239ra3u I saw you mentioned that issue particularly with mxf files shot on the Sony FX6, and working on 5 year old Dell laptop with Nvidia graphics/1 year old Asus NUC Performance (5070 mobile). May we request a sample file of your FX6 MXF for further troubleshooting? I’ll also DM you our Dropbox upload link for this.

It sounds as though you both might be using v26.5 Premiere as well, but just to confirm on a few details if you could:
    1) Are you in v26.5 Premiere or if not, which version/build of Premiere you’re seeing this issue in?
    2) Is this happening in all your projects, just some, or if you open new one with a few sample clips, is it still there? Reading the comments seems as though it is affecting other projects.
    3) if using Mac let us know what kind and which macOS, or if PC, are you on win11/10 and what driver version and build?
    4) Last working version of Premiere where playback/exports were behaving as expected?

I also wanted to make you aware of this Known Issue we’re tracking as this sounds somewhat familiar. See below:

The current temporary workaround is working in v26.3.2, and we’re still gathering user specs and details on what is working for them.

If you are indeed experiencing that same above issue, I’d like to merge this post there if that’s alright. Nothing will be lost, it just gets all the feedback in one spot for the engineers.

    Hope to help!
    Katie

Yes the main issues were in 26.5. all projects. PC see attached specs.

Oddly, even after reverting I have been having select issues with some playback/ caching on some clips. I am getting a green screen which ive never seen before.
