P: Premiere freezes when a submenu is opened from the timeline clip right-click menu (Label to Time Interpolation). The submenu highlight sticks and the UI stops repainting.

Premiere Pro freezes completely whenever I open the Time Interpolation submenu from a clip’s Timeline context menu. The freeze happens immediately when I hover over/open Time Interpolation — I do not need to click Optical Flow for the freeze to occur.

I first noticed this in my existing project, but I tested it again in a completely new project with only one video clip, and the exact same issue occurs.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create a new Premiere Pro project.
  2. Import a single video clip.
  3. Add the clip to the Timeline.
  4. Right-click the clip.
  5. Hover over/open Time Interpolation.
  6. Premiere immediately becomes unresponsive and needs to be force-quit.

I have also tested after disabling third-party extensions/plugins, but the issue still occurs.

System: Apple Silicon Mac, macOS 27.0, Premiere Pro 26.0.2.2.

I have attached a screen recording showing the issue. I can also provide an Activity Monitor sample taken while Premiere is frozen if needed.

@Athul S Keerthi Just to update your post for all, we’re aware of this ‘Ask Siri’ issue. The current workaround is to disable Ask Siri.

We’re currently working on a fix, and we will return here to update once that becomes available.

Thanks again for taking the time to report on this and helping others!

Same issue as well. I’m on Golden Gate, 27.0.1, M1 Max, doesn’t matter project size-- I made a new project and brought in one clip and it still did it. Just turned off ask Siri and the problem is not happening now.

@mschwindt0098 Sneaky Siri! Yes, this issue cropped up suddenly with Golden Gate, and they’re working on a fix. In the meantime, best leave it disabled and will be merging this post to the main post where this issue was discovered so that all of you can see when it’s fixed or any further updates.

Sorry for any frustration and thanks for updating us what helped!

I'm assuming you’re on a Mac and your OS system is Golden Gate? If so, then disable Siri and it works fine then.

    Hi @snortonphotography

Thanks for stopping by the Premiere forums and letting us know about your issue with right click menu. Out of curiosity, are you on Golden Gate OS and happen to have Siri enabled? An easy way to tell is when you right click in Premiere, you’ll see Siri at the top of that right click menu, I believe. Disabling Siri is a current workaround.

See this thread for more context:

Let’s get some more details to help troubleshoot below -

    • Premiere Version: What is the exact Premiere version and build you’re using? Help > About Premiere or Premiere > About Premiere.
    • Setup/OS: Please specify Windows 11/10 or Mac, plus what macOS, along with driver version/build.
      • GPU Driver version/build(Windows only): We recommend updating to the most recent version; for NVIDIA users, we strongly recommend the Studio version of the driver.
      • Mac Chip (Mac Only): what M-series chip? If Intel, please include GPU.
    • Media Files: video, images, etc. and what types (can check under Media Properties)
    • Project Size: About how big is your project file? Is it in a Production? Approximately how many clips are involved in a rough estimate
    • Media Storage: Are your Scratch Disks set to your Documents folder or the same as project, and is this the same as the Media drive?

Also, if you could please let us know the following, this is also helpful to know:

    • Does it affect all projects or only some? What about new projects with a few sample clips?
    • Do you recall which Premiere this was last working in, when It started, and what might have changed? Any plugins, OS update, drivers, etc.

Screen Recording: If possible, include a recording of your screen showing the issue as that’s helpful.

    We hope we can help!
    Katie

I have the latest PP build on my MacBook Pro, and every time I try to change the label colour in the project window, the program freezes, on screen, and I have to turn off the MacBook, it won’t even allow me to close down the program. On my iMac I haven’t updated PP and still using v26.2.0 (Build 65) and don't have this issue.

Turning off Siri Fixes this. But why is it a bug in the first place. I’ve been fighting this bug for a long time as I was on the Beta!!!

@RichGSA Glad to hear that helped, and sorry for the frustration with that. It’s currently being investigated so I’m not exactly sure why it’s causing that hang up on the right click like it is. We’ll post an update here as that information becomes available.

Appreciate your patience as they continue working on a fix!

“Premiere Pro UI freezes during normal editing. Lumetri Curves, Color Wheels, and Timeline > Right Click > Label become unresponsive.”

Hi @Spfilms_77, ran across this post and took at look at your screen recording and noticed you have “Ask Siri” on your right click submenu.

I was helping some others on this post with the exact same issue, so I’m merging your post there. Not to worry, nothing will be lost. Then you’ll be able to see updates and when a fix is available, all in one spot.

Workarounds include disabling Ask Siri or trying v26.5.1 in the meantime.

    That main post is here:

Appreciate your posting to report on this issue!

I’ve been facing the exact same issue and my premiere just freezes…

Specifically whenever I right click on the timeline and wherever i go, after a sec the menu freezes on screen.. and the and premiere stops animating around… the video preview might still play but but everything else essentially freezes.

@divine_vijayy Do you also happen to have “Ask Siri” showing up in your right-click submenus? The workaround for now is to disable Siri while it’s currently being investigated. We’ll be updating this post once a fix is available or if any further details are needed.

    Thanks for your post,

@KatieToo Hi, I found that it complety works without any issues on a previous patch of 26.5.1

I am experiencing the exact same issue.

Whenever I right-click a clip in the timeline and navigate down the contextual menu (specifically hovering over flyout submenus like Show Clip Keyframes > Time Remapping / Lumetri Color / Motion), Premiere Pro completely freezes and hangs immediately, forcing me to Force Quit.

in my case, this consistently happens in a multi-display extended desktop setup (MacBook Pro internal display + 2 external monitors). It seems like rendering nested context menus across mixed-DPI / multi-monitor workspaces may be triggering a UI thread lockup.

    Here are my system specifications:

    • Computer: MacBook Pro 16-inch

    • Processor: Apple M5 Pro

    • Memory: 48 GB Unified Memory

    • OS: macOS Golden Gate (v27.0)

    • Display Setup:

      • 1x Built-in Liquid Retina XDR Display (16-inch, 3456 × 2234)

      • 2x External Displays: PLX2783H (27-inch, 1920 × 1080 each)

As soon as I disconnect both external monitors and run Premiere Pro solely on the built-in MacBook Pro display, everything works completely normally without any freezing. The issue is strictly tied to the multi-monitor configuration.

I attempted to record a screen video reproducing the bug, but launching a QuickTime screen recording immediately causes Premiere Pro to crash entirely.

@manele68 Thank you for this report! So then, you don’t also have Ask Siri enabled in your right click menus? I see your screenshot attached but it’s scrolled down. That would be showing up right at the top of that right click menu if it was present. The other two are experiencing Ask Siri related issues here, on one monitor.

Let us know, and also I’ve highlighted the instructions on how to disable that Ask Siri in menus on this post to help as workaround for now.

I’m not sure what is causing the crash between QT Player and Premiere, however, if you’ve got similar shortcuts, hitting CMD SHIFT 5 together brings up built-in screen recording if you’re able to capture that.

Sorry for the frustration with this!

Hey, thanks for your quick response! That was indeed the problem. Turning off 'Ask Siri' in the right-click menu fixed it, and everything is back to normal!
