P: Premiere Pro Freeze During Export Using Hardware Encoding (NVIDIA RTX 5070)

Hi Adobe Community,

I'm experiencing consistent freezes when exporting projects using CUDA acceleration with my new NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070. This occurs in both Adobe Premiere Pro and Media Encoder.

Bug Report Details:

  • Product(s) Affected:

    • Adobe Premiere Pro (25.2)

  • Operating System: Windows 11 Pro

  • GPU: ASUS Prime GeForce RTX™ 5070 OC Edition 12GB GDDR7

  • GPU Driver: NVIDIA Studio Driver (Latest version available at the time of this report)

Issue Description:
Since upgrading to the ASUS RTX 5070, Adobe Premiere Pro freeze during export when CUDA acceleration is enabled. The application becomes completely unresponsive at a random percentage of export progress. No error message is displayed, and no crash logs seem to be generated. The application process cannot be terminated via Task Manager, forcing a full PC restart.

Project & Export Settings (Typical Scenario):

  • Source Footage: H.265

  • Sequence Resolution: 1080p

  • Sequence Duration: Approximately 40 minutes

  • Effects Used: Minimal (no heavy effects or LUTs)

  • Preview Rendering: Not used

  • Export Format: H.264

  • Renderer: Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA)

  • Encoding: Hardware Encoding

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open a project in Premiere Pro (e.g., a 40-minute timeline with H.265 footage, simple edits, no heavy effects).
  2. Go to File > Export > Media.
  3. Set Export Format to H.264.
  4. Ensure "Performance" is set to "Hardware Encoding."
  5. Under Video > Encoding Settings (or similar, depending on version), ensure the Renderer is set to "Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA)."
  6. Start the export (either directly from Premiere Pro or by queuing to Media Encoder).

Expected Result:

The export completes successfully(New RTX 5000 series now support 4:2:2 10bit H.265 natively)

Actual Result:
The application (Premiere Pro) freezes at a random point during the export. It becomes unresponsive, and the system requires a hard restart as the application cannot be closed via Task Manager.

Additional Notes:

  • The problem is reproducible in both Premiere Pro direct export and Adobe Media Encoder.

  • Switching to "Software Eng" rendering allows exports to complete, but this is not ideal.

I would appreciate any insights, troubleshooting steps, or guidance on whether this is a known compatibility issue. Please let me know if further information is required.

Thank you!

I bought the latest MSI Titan 18 HX AI just to make sure my videos will render faster than last time, gate it 96gb of Ram and 2 SSD of 2TB. Well... I honestly though it was the laptop problem. I updated every single driver, Windows update and ofc Adobe (Even tried Beta).

My frustration is endless because I was waiting for these laptops so long and by the end of the Testing Adobe Premiere Pro is working even worse than my RTX4070 laptop.

Worse because I was not able to finish the render (95-98% and it stuck and did not even possible to close in manager, only hard reboot).

Also it crashes while scaling the layers of something (or black screen for 10 sec or so). Also timeline is dropping frames with 4K 4:2:0.

Speed - yeah, like 2-2,5x faster with 4K but only until 95% lol. I tried different projects and settings. Videos under 25 mins works well, prettt fas, can be finished. I was truly disappointed and returned my laptop thinking it's just some broken model maybe, but then I discovered that it's RTX50-s series problem... Honestly I couldn't imagine that after almost a Year after 5090 launched there's no any official announcement from NVIDIA or Adobe.. it's unbelievable and horrible because I was so happy to bring it home and finally speed up my workflow - but soo disappointed in the end.

I then bought RTX4090 laptop just to compare and speed the work for some time - works good, no prombels at all.

안녕하세요 지금도 당신은 문제없이  h264 및 기타 내보내기 익스포트 작업을 잘 수행하고 있나요?

@Jereomy26015418tyqu What program are you using to fuse the video and audio back together. Normally I would use Premiere for that...

I would try rolling back drivers, but I also use my GPU for gaming and AI, so I don't want to mess anything else up. I'll try exporting without audio and see how that goes.

5070 user here.

Not to jinx it but I've been having success rolling back my driver to 572.83 and using Premiere 25.1.

Some users have no issues, some fixed with changing the drivers, and everyone hoping Nvidia gets this figured out.

Everyone's mileage always varies ...

New user of RTX 5060. Have the exact same problem. Bought the graphics card yesterday, sending it back tommorow. No fix found

I am with the latest drivers, and it works for me, thats what im saying, is that if somoene else is having the issue with those drivers, or with actual drivers, my method works. At least for me it does.

@Jereomy26015418tyqu did you notice that post above from @andreas.antoniades and confirmed by @Kostiantyn25 right above you that they had some success with nvidia driver: Studio Driver 572.60 (Thu Feb 27, 2025)

Give that a try and let us know.

I just did the audio check and it worked for me,
Try exporting the video with out the audio, and then export the audio separetly, and just fuse it in another program.

I want to know if this is a viable fix for people having the same issue.

msi Vector 16 HX AI A2XWIG-290IT same here on 5080 laptop,

on desktop 3090 all fine. Now downgraded to 572.83 (oldest avaliable on nvidia site), worked like a charm, thanks for people that write this solution.
