P: There is no image in the preview section of the project

Hello, today, while I was working on a project in Premiere Pro, the preview image suddenly disappeared. In Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects, the video preview does not open in the part where the preview screen is located. When I press the space bar, the sound of the video starting is heard, but there is no image. I searched in many places, but I could not find a solution. I deleted it and reinstalled it, it didn't work, I cleared the media cache and it didn't work, I downgraded or upgraded the version and it didn't work either. I tried and many other things but I couldn't find a solution. I am sending the screen recording as an attachment. I would be very happy if you could help me.

(my system properties
i7 13700h
gtx 4060
32 ddr5 ram
1tb ssd
The video I was working on was a very simple edit, so I don't think it was caused by a system freeze.)

Hi everyone,

I'm having an issue with Adobe Premiere Pro where my video does not display in either the Source Monitor or the Program Monitor. The audio plays correctly, and the video appears properly in the timeline and project panel thumbnails, but there is no visual output when I try to play it. Video is in mp4. H264 format Here's a screenshot of the issue:

Things I've already tried:

Switched renderer to Mercury Playback Engine Software Only (File > Project Settings > General).

  1. Reset workspace layout via Window > Workspaces > Reset to Saved Layout.

  2. Confirmed that Source Monitor is enabled from the Window menu.

  3. Cleared Media Cache (Edit > Preferences > Media Cache > Delete).

  4. Re-imported the file and created a new sequence.

  5. Tested with other H.264 .mp4 videos (same issue).

  6. My graphics driver is up to date.

Very frustrating ..

Have you checked your latest BIOS Updates and settings?

Are you also using the Studio Driver (not gaming driver) - I assume so

There were some reports on the web that some later NVidia Drivers were causing issues on RTX Geforce 4000 series and users should go back to older drivers - reports claim 566.36 was more stable

Can't verify this.

There were also reports that earlier versions of Win 11 24H2 messed up graphics for a lot of people.

How long have you been on that version?

yes, I have tried all 3 points you mentioned.
1. I have reinstalled every GPU drivers with the "Clean install" clicked.
2. I have resetted Preference and Playback settings to default.
3. I have resetted Workplace.
None of them works.

Someone merged my post to this mega thread. Changing to Microsoft basics display driver fixes it, but this is just a temporary fix,  I cant adjust brightness or use night light.. I paid for a laptop that had stronger CPUs and GPUs for editing videos and now I have to disable them to edit videos?
Im hoping adobe can fix this issue since I see that the problem has been there since 2024.

1. Have you tried a completely fresh install of the NVidia GPU graphics driver?

Clean the Laptop of all NVidia driver installations and select fresh clean install using the Custom installation selection.

2. What does your Preferences/Playback selection look like ?. Are the settings correct?

3. Try Reseting your Workspace - I have had weird issues with Workspaces getting corrupted in the past.

Just some ideas to try if you have not already gone through this

Hello, I have recently updated from Premiere Pro 2023 to 2025 on my Laptop, and after that, I keep getting no playback, but the audio works fine.

The playback is either a black screen, a grey screen (the same colour as the UI window), or a glitchy image.

As the image shows, the playback is on a black screen in the program or the source.

If I create a new project and use a sample media provided by the Software, the master will not show a black screen and show the interface before I click create project. its very glitchy.

It's only the visuals that are not working; the audio works fine as it plays the sequence. This has been quite a frustrating problem since I still have some projects to work with.

I've tried the following to troubleshoot, but none of these worked to solve the problem:
1. Reinstalling the software (I tried the newest 2025 version and 2025 version, but the 2024 version also doesn't work.)
2. Updating my CPU and GPU Drivers (Both Intel and NVIDIA drivers are up to date. I check and update it every day. It usually solves the problem, but not anymore.) I've had issues regarding the drivers on other games, but it doesn't have a problem opening my games this time.

3. Changing Audio Hardware (Although there's only one option).

4. Clearing media cache files

5. Changing render software, both don't work.

6. Rebooting Premiere Pro or Windows. I tried countless times, but it didn't work.

Here are my device details; please let me know if you have any insights on how to solve this problem; I would really appreciate it.

Laptop: Victus 16 by HP Gaming Laptop - r0xxx

System: Windows 11 64-bit 24H2

CPU: Intel i5-13500HX

GPU: Intel UHD Graphics, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050 Laptop GPU

RAM: 16GB
 version in question: 2025 (25.2.1)

Thank you.

Hi,

No positive input on this matter?

From my side, I managed to get the video preview to show again. I found out that you can select the GPU per application in Windows, so I selected the integrated Intel GPU and it works.

But as all of you can imagine, this is not a solution since I specifically bought a laptop with a dedicated GPU to edit videos with Premiere, but I can't use it.

Does Adobe say anything about this?

Thanks,

Frank

Hello community,

I have exactly the same problem. Here is the link I opened in the bugs section for information.

Premier Pro video preview black - Adobe Community - 15232782

Rolling back KB5053602 works again, but I think this is a workaround not a definitive solution, in addition to having Windows updates blocked

Can anyone here help me?"

Thanks in advance

Frank

Hello,

When creating a new project, selecting any of the videos provided by the application as an example, the video preview does not display, showing a black screen, but the audio does.

Windows 11 23H2 build 22631.2428

Adobe 2024 - build 24.6.4 (compliation 3)

Seems that when I get installed windows 11 accumulative update KB5053602 then I get black screen on video pre-view

Could you support me on this the get soved as soon as possible ?? I haven't been able to work for more than 15 days.

Regards

Frank

Try updating or rolling back your graphics driver directly from the video card manufacturer’s site. If NVIDIA, do a clean installation of the latest Studio Driver (NOT the Game Driver).

Ahmet,

Sad to hear you're having troubles!

But how about starting a new thread from the main forum, using the blue button "post to the community" ... and do give full details.

Such as the nature of the problem, OS/CPU/GPU/RAM, the media involved, effects ... and more if it's applicable to the issue.

Some of us will get back with some ideas then.

Everyone's mileage always varies ...
