Peak File regenerating everyday

I'm working on a documentary. Our team is using Productions with the Production files and all media stored on a local NAS (Avid NEXIS). We are in Premiere 25.2.1. I am cacheing to the default folder (Users/[user name]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common) on a 2023 M2 Ultra Mac Studio with 192 GB of RAM and 1 TB of internal storage. My media cache is set to "not delete files automatically." And, under audio settings, I have "Generate audio waveforms automatically during import," de-selected.

Everyday when I open any project in the production, I notice my visible waveforms, created the day prior, are gone. When I look into my cache folder at the corresponding .PEK file, I can see it there, in the dated folder from the day prior, along with all the other .PEK files—all mixed media sources—that are also not showing visible waveforms in Premiere where they were yesterday. If I select these clips and "Generate Audio Waveforms," new .PEK files will be creatd in a new folder in the cache with today's date; ie, "Peak Files/2025-07-23." But the old .PEK files will still be there in the folder from yesterday. And tomorrow, all visible waveforms will be gone again from the project and I will have to re-"Generate Audio Waveforms" to create new, identical .PEK files in a folder with tomorrow's date. I am using no plug-ins. And I have cleared the cache and reset preferences twice already. This problem persists.

Any thoughts?

Hi @jamieclarke - more computer specs below:

2023 M2 Ultra Mac Studio running Sonoma 14.5 with 192 GB of RAM and 1 TB of internal storage. We are in Premiere 25.2.1. The Production (and all media) is stored on a local NAS (Avid NEXIS.) I am cacheing internally.

Other users have not reported any issues losing audio waveforms, so far. All projects were created from within the production. If I have "generate audio waveforms automatically" selected, the problem persists, the only difference being that waveforms will re-build automatically each day when I open up the projects.

Hi @Charlie2862342816ag -  Thanks for submitting your bug report. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue. Please see, How to Report a Problem.

Are you the only one that loses the audio waveforms or does your other team members as well?

What are your computer specs and your teams?

Are these projects created in the production or have been brought into the production?

If you have generate audio waveform automatically selected does it fix your issue?

Are these projects opened by your team members and then you lose them or only opened by you?

Sorry for the frustration.

It sounds like it's related to how PP on occasion loses track of some preview files.
